  • ATL Running Back #44
Falcons signed seventh-round RB Jason Snelling to a four-year contract.
The Falcons are intrigued by Snelling’s versatility and he has considerable opportunity behind scatbacks Jerious Norwood and Warrick Dunn in Atlanta’s new power-running system. However, the former Virginia Cavalier may have to fend off undrafted rookie Justin Vincent to secure a roster spot.
  • FA Running Back #30
The Falcons want to give fullback Ovie Mughelli a chance to be their short-yardage back.
Mughelli showed solid pass-catching ability as a Raven in 2006, but he has only 12 career carries. Atlanta needs a big back to step up, be it seventh-round pick Jason Snelling, Mughelli, or undrafted rookie Justin Vincent.
  • ATL Running Back #44
Jason Snelling carried ten times for 48 yards in Friday’s preseason loss.
Snelling showed solid power and surprising explosiveness on a 12-yard dash. He also caught three passes for a dozen yards and should be locked into the third-tailback role for Atlanta. Justin Vincent did not carry the ball.
  • FA Running Back
Jerious Norwood will be Atlanta’s clear-cut No. 1 running back while Warrick Dunn recovers from surgery for a herniated disc.
If Joey Harrington weren’t the Falcons’ quarterback, Norwood’s fantasy stock would be at quite a high. For now, expect Norwood to open the season as Atlanta’s top back, whether or not Dunn returns in time for Week 1. Also keep an eye on unheralded rookie RBs Justin Vincent and Jason Snelling.
  • ATL Running Back
Jamal Robertson is running as the backup tailback in Falcons camp.
Warrick Dunn is out with a back injury and Robertson, a career special teamer, is next in line. Bruising rookie Jason Snelling is third in line, and could move up quickly with a strong preseason. Undrafted free agent Justin Vincent is fourth.
  • PIT Running Back
Steelers signed RBs Justin Vincent and Isaac Redman, C A.Q. Shipley, TE Dezmond Sherrod, DT Steve McLendon, WR Tyler Grisham, and DE RaShon “Sonny” Harris to their practice squad.
Redman, nicknamed “Redzone Redman” in camp for his efficiency around the goal line, could be an option later on if Frank Summers plays his way off the roster. This will be Vincent’s second straight year on the practice team.
  • PIT Running Back
Steelers signed RB Justin Vincent to their practice squad.
Pittsburgh kept four RBs on the active roster; Rashard Mendenhall, Willie Parker, Mewelde Moore, and Gary Russell. Vincent is unlikely to play in 2008.
  • WAS Tight End
Steelers released TE Lee Vickers, LB Patrick Bailey, WR/KR Eddie Drummond, P Paul Ernster, FB Billy Latsko, OG Doug Legursky, OG Matt Lentz, CB Roy Lewis, S Grant Mason, DE Ryan McBean, OT Jeremy Parquet, DT Scott Paxson, DE Jordan Reffett, WR Willie Reid, WR Micah Rucker, TE Dezmond Sherrod, RB Justin Vincent and CB Travis Williams.
Nothing to see here folks. Good to see the Steelers moving on from Reid and Drummond on returns.
  • PIT Wide Receiver
Steelers signed WR Dallas Baker, C/G Doug Legursky, DB Roy Lewis, TE Dezmond Sherrod, RB Justin Vincent, LB Donovan Woods, FB Ryan Powdrell, and WR Brandon Williams to reserve/future contracts.
Baker opened 2008 as Pittsburgh’s fourth receiver, but landed on the practice squad after Limas Sweed beat him out. Williams was the 49ers’ third round pick in 2006 and offers some return skills. Woods is a special teamer.
  • PIT Running Back
Steelers waived RB Justin Vincent, DT Scott Paxson, LS Matt Stewart, S Justin Thornton, and LB Renauld Williams.
Vincent has been a mainstay on the Steelers’ practice squad the past two seasons, but he’s never come close to seeing game action. Stewart’s release locks in veteran Greg Warren as the long snapper.
