Cardinals selected Houston OT Josh Jones with the No. 72 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
A four-year starter for the Cougars, Jones (6’5/319) projects as a raw prospect after playing in three different offensive systems under five seperate O-line coaches at the collegiate level. He garnered praise with second-team All-AAC honors as a redshirt senior, permitting zero sacks and quarterback hits against negligible talent and small-school prospects. He admittedly lacks explosion and decisiveness (both which show on tape), running an unofficial 5.29 40-speed in Indianapolis while struggling with incorrect angles as Houston’s pulling-tackle in his final year. Jones has a nice all-around floor, particularly as a stand-up pass protector, but ultimately lacks the ceiling of others in this class. He’ll likely carve out a role as a rotational player in his age-23 rookie season, though the Cardinals do need help at that position immediately. He’ll likely play at right tackle and compete across from franchise LT D.J. Humphries.
