Giants signed second-round CB Terrell Thomas to a multi-year contract and claimed OT Jonathan Palmer off waivers from the Raiders.

Thomas was widely pegged as a zone corner or free safety coming out of USC, but he’ll have to play a good amount of man in DC Steve Spagnuolo’s scheme. Thomas is unlikely to start as a rookie. Palmer is a camp body.

Browns terminated the contract of LB Shantee Orr and waived DL Melila Purcell and OT Jonathan Palmer.

Orr was signed to a one-year deal back in March, but the team didn’t have room for him when the decided to keep injured rookie Beau Bell. Purcell is a practice squad candidate.

Highsmith spent time on the active roster in 2008 and 2009, seeing action as a special teamer. The Cards are currently very thin at inside ‘backer, so the former LSU Tiger figures to be directly in the mix for a job in 2010.

Gant is suspended for the first four games, but the Cards didn’t deem him worth waiting on, opting for Max Komar. Scott flunked out of two camps, also the Eagles. He’s not come close to early expectations after a fine LSU career.
