Packers selected Miami DE Jonathan Garvin with the No. 242 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Garvin (6'4/263) was a two-year starter at Miami who made 5.5 and 5.0 sacks as a sophomore and junior. Despite the average production, he declared for the NFL Draft early. He has Day 3 speed (4.82-second 40-yard dash) and will have to show more developmental traits to stick on the Packers’ roster. We are now in the Round 7 and the Packers still haven’t drafted a receiver.

Miami DE Jonathan Garvin can be effective either as a 4-3 end of 3-4 edge rusher in the opinion of NFL Media’s Lance Zierlein.
Garvin (6'4/263) is an intriguing draft prospect, because while he has the talent of a highly regarded player the consistency wasn’t there for much of his time at Miami. His positional versatility is viewed as an asset at the next level, but whichever team selects Garvin will need to do some work to turn the upside into consistent production. “He gains depth upfield quickly and is fairly natural at defeating the punch and flipping the corner,” Zierlein wrote in his analysis. “Pressures are nice, but sack-makers get paid and that won’t happen unless he cranks up the effort and plays to his traits and potential.” Garvin is projected to be a Day 3 draft pick.

Multiple outlets are reporting that Miami junior DE Jonathan Garvin will declare for the 2020 NFL Draft.
Garvin (6'4/250) has not yet officially announced his decision, but there have been reports swirling since Saturday and it looks like the cat’s out of the bag at this point. The Miami lineman has reportedly already hired an agent, meaning he will be sitting out the team’s upcoming Independence Bowl matchup with Louisiana Tech. Garvin registered 37 tackles (9.0 for loss), five sacks and two forced fumbles across 12 games this fall. He posted even more impressive statistical marks last season, including 17 TFL. While Garvin lacks for pure explosion off the snap, he possesses nice length and a sturdy frame for the pros. In a recent seven-round mock draft exercise, CBS Sports’ Ryan Wilson has Garvin coming off the board in Round 5.

Miami signed three-star 2017 DE Jonathan Garvin.
Garvin took an in-season official visit to Tennessee in October, but that did not sway him off an earlier pledge to the Hurricanes. The 6-foot-4, 222-pounder ranks as Scout.com’s No. 236 overall prospect in the 2017 class. That outlet notes that Garvin is “at his best when turned loose to pursue the quarterback.” They would like to see him further develop his arsenal of moves as he acclimates to collegiate play.
