  • FA Safety #24
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Saints have released S Johnathan Abram.
The 27-year-old made three starts for the Saints in 2024 while playing a mix of safety and various special teams roles. There was a thought that he could step into a bigger role with Marcus Maye now in Miami, but that will not be the case. The team is reportedly hoping to get him back on the practice squad.
  • NO Defensive Back #24
    Saints re-signed S Johnathan Abram.
Abram appeared in nine games for the Saints in 2023. He was credited with three starts while playing a mix of safety and various special teams roles. Abrams ended the year with one interception and one forced fumble to go along with 26 total tackles. The former first-round pick of Las Vegas appears to have found a role as a two-way player with the Saints.
  • NO Defensive Back #24
Saints signed S Johnathan Abram to the active roster.
A former first-round pick from the 2019 class, Abram has made his way around the league in recent seasons. After being waived by the Raiders last November, Abram made his way to the Packers, who waived him weeks later. Now, with the Saints, Abram will have a chance to revive his career, presumably for the remainder of the season. It will be interesting to see how the Saints implement him in the coming weeks.
  • NO Safety #24
Saints signed S Johnathan Abram to a one-year contract.
The former first-round selection was released by the Raiders near the midway point in the 2022 season before being claimed, and subsequently released by, the Packers, finishing the season with five appearances for the Seahawks. Abram, the 27th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft by the Raiders, lost his starting job in Week 8 of last season and could be transitioned to corner as a depth piece in New Orleans.

  • NO Safety #24
    Packers waived S Johnathan Abram.
After being claimed off waivers from Vegas, Abram played just two defensive snaps for the Packers in two weeks before going back on waivers. It’s possible he could play on three different teams in November if he’s claimed again tomorrow.

  • NO Safety #24
Packers claimed S Johnathan Abram on waivers from the Raiders.
A first-round pick in 2019, Abram was waived after losing his starting job in Las Vegas. He should be depth and special teams help in Green Bay.

  • NO Safety #24
    Raiders waived S Johnathan Abram.
Abram lost his starting job in Week 8 and played just 52 combined defensive snaps over the last two weeks. Duron Harmon and Trevon Moehrig have been Vegas’ starting safeties. 2019 first-rounder Abram doesn’t have a single NFL season to his name with above a 54.2 PFF coverage grade and might be a candidate to be a dimebacker elsewhere ala Mark Barron -- he just hasn’t covered well enough to be an easy fit at safety.

  • NO Safety #24
    Raiders declined S Johnathan Abram’s fifth-year option for 2023.
Abram was the 27th overall pick in the 2019 draft, the third of the Raiders’ three first-rounders that year. And now all three have had their 2023 options declined, with Abram being joined by EDGE Clelin Ferrell and RB Josh Jacobs. Abram has a lengthy history of shoulder issues and dislocated his shoulder in Week 15 last year. He’ll now be a free agent next offseason.

  • GB Running Back #8
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Raiders declined to exercise the fifth-year option for Josh Jacobs.
Vegas also turned down the fifth-year options for DE Clelin Ferrell and S Johnathan Abram. The team’s new leadership likely wants Jacobs to prove himself in 2022 after an up-and-down three years with the Raiders. Former head coach Jon Gruden refused to give Jacobs a workhorse role despite Jacobs showing he was a capable three-down back. After Kenyan Drake was lost for the season in 2021, Jacobs went on a tear, and thanks in part to his pass-catching role, was fantasy’s sixth highest scoring RB in the season’s final six weeks. The Raiders taking a running back in the 2022 draft could complicate things for Jacobs and Drake.

  • NO Safety #24
Raiders placed S Johnathan Abram (shoulder) on injured reserve.
His season is over after dislocating his shoulder in the Week 15 win over the Browns. He’d played every snap this season prior to the injury but was Pro Football Focus’ No. 72 safety out of 91 qualifiers. The former first-round pick in 2019 has a history of severe shoulder issues.
