Patriots signed K John Parker Romo, formerly of the Vikings.
Parker Romo will be on the team’s practice squad until the Pats activate him to the game day roster. Parker Romo made 11 of his 12 field goal attempts in four games with the Vikings this season before the team released him in Week 14, with Will Reichard returning from IR. Parker Romo could be New England’s starter soon rather than later. Joey Slye has missed three field goals over the team’s past two games and has converted a lowly 78 percent of his attempts in 2024.

    Patriots waived K Chad Ryland.
Something of a swan song terrible pick for erstwhile GM Bill Belichick, Ryland suffered through an ineffective rookie campaign and saw Joey Slye added as veteran depth in May. Slye has now presumably won the job. Kickers tend to begin their careers strangely slow in the NFL, so 24-year-old former fourth-rounder Ryland could quickly revive his fortunes on the workout circuit.
  • NE Kicker #6
Patriots sign K Joey Slye, formerly of the Jaguars.
Slye will serve as camp competition for second-year kicker Chad Ryland, who converted on 16-of-25 field goals in his rookie season. Ryland missed 7-of-14 attempts from 40-plus yards out, a range that Slye converted on at a 71.4 percent rate last season. Slye has converted 82.3 percent of his field goals for his career and has spent the last two seasons with Washington. While he was most recently with the Jaguars, Slye never attempted a field goal for them, as he was signed back in mid-March as a free agent.

    Jaguars released K Joey Slye.
Jacksonville draft K Cam Little out of Arkansas with the 212th pick of the 2024 NFL Draft. With Slye’s release, it looks like Little will compete with veteran Riley Patterson for kicking duties. Little converted nearly 83 percent of his field goals at Arkansas and never missed an extra point. Little was first-team All-SEC as a kickoff specialist. Slye, who made 85 percent of his kicks during three years with the Commanders, will likely find work elsewhere this summer.
  • JAX Kicker #6
Jaguars agreed to terms with K Joey Slye, formerly of the Commanders, on a one-year contract.
Slye spent almost three full seasons with the Commanders and converted on 84.8 percent of his field goal attempts over that span while nailing 8-of-12 kicks from 50-plus yards. The five-year vet now has a chance to continue his career with the Jaguars after the Commanders went out and signed Brandon McManus last week. Slye converted on 79.2 percent of his field goal attempts last season, although poor performances by his long snapper likely contributed to a few of those misses.
  • WAS Kicker #6
Joey Slye has earned the Commanders’ kicking job.
The Commanders signed Michael Badgley to push Slye after a good but not great 2022, but they have ended the competition before they have even played their second preseason game. Although the Commanders’ offense could be better under new OC Eric Bieniemy, it is not going to be attack fantasy managers are going to want to target for kicker streaming.
  • NE Kicker #13
Commanders re-signed K Joey Slye to two-year contract.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports the deal is worth around $5 million and includes $2 million in guarantees. Washington must have liked what they saw in Slye’s six games with the team last season. He made all 12 of his field goal attempts and all ten of his extra points after stints in Carolina, Houston, and San Francisco during the 2021 season. In his first two NFL seasons, he made a middling 79.4 percent of his field goal tries. Slye, who has never missed arm day, has long been excellent on kickoffs. Perhaps Slye, 26, can find a long-term home with the Commanders.

  • NE Kicker #13
Commanders extended a right of first refusal tender to restricted free agent K Joey Slye.
If he signs it, the deal will be worth around $2.4 million. Using the lowest tender means the Commanders will not be awarded any draft compensation if Slye ends up somewhere else. Slye converted 23-of-25 field goal attempts across three teams last season.

  • FA Kicker (FG) #16
    Washington signed K Brian Johnson.
Former starting kicker Joey Slye was sent to injured reserve because of a hamstring injury he suffered Monday night against the Seahawks. Johnson had a less than stellar four-game run with the Saints earlier this year, connecting on all eight of his field goals but missing three extra points including two in a game the Saints lost by two points. Those misses ultimately spelled his demise. He will hope for a better run with The Football Team.

  • NE Kicker #13
    Washington signed K Joey Slye.
Slye’s 2021 world tour will continue in Washington. Waived by Carolina in August, Slye caught on with he Texans in September and played for the 49ers in October, filling in for injured starters at both stops. The Football Team released Chris Blewitt and will roll with Slye -- for now. Slye, who’s hit seven of eight field goal attempts and two of four extra points, won’t have much fantasy value on a bad Football Team.
