The Nashville City Paper says Tians rookie wide receivers Paul Williams and Joel Filani “appear to be projects.”
Both players have the opportunity for significant roles this year on a thin roster, but appear currently to be slated for the end of the depth chart.
  • FA Wide Receiver #15
Titans wideouts Courtney Roby, Justin Gage, Biren Ealy and Joel Filani are battling for one-to-two roster spots.
Roby had some snaps with the first team early in camp, but it appears he’s fifth on the depth chart at best right now. If he hasn’t developed by his third year, he probably isn’t going to.
  • TB Wide Receiver
Titans informed 12 players of their release Friday: WR Joel Filani, CB Ryan Smith, T Mike Otto, TEs Cooper Wallace and Jamie Petrowski, RBs Dontrell Moore and Quinton Ganther, DEs Josh Savage and Jason Hall, G Issac Snell, T Seth Wand and LB Terna Nande.
The first three names were Tennessee second day draft picks this year, and are likely candidates for the practice squad. No surprises among the rest of the list. Wand was once a starter in Houston.
  • TB Wide Receiver
Titans signed WR Joel Filani to a multi-year contract.
Filani is the least naturally gifted of the three wideouts Tennessee took in April but may have the best chance to see the field immediately because he’ll cover kicks. His upside is probably as no more than a fourth receiver.
  • TB Wide Receiver
Bucs signed WR Joel Filani, formerly of the Rams.
Filani, 25, became expendable in St. Louis when late-rounder Brooks Foster was drafted. The Bucs need a third receiver, but Filani isn’t the answer.
  • TB Wide Receiver
Bucs waived/injured WR Joel Filani (hamstring).
The former Texas Tech Red Raider was strictly a camp body.
  • TB Wide Receiver
Seahawks waived WR Joel Filani and DB Omare Lowe.
Neither had a great shot at making the roster in the first place. Filani could wind up on a practice squad somewhere.
  • TB Wide Receiver
Seahawks signed WR Joel Filani and waived WR Travis Brown and DL Kelly Talavou.
Filani is a longshot to make the Seahawks, but his ability to play special teams should help a bit. With a lot of uncertainty at the position, any wideout landing in coach Mike Holmgren’s offense is worth monitoring.
  • TB Wide Receiver
Vikings waived WR Joel Filani and LB Dallas Sartz.
Both were signed this winter as early offseason depth, nothing more.
  • TB Wide Receiver
Rams signed WR Joel Filani, DE C.J. Ah You, DT Willie Williams, and WRs Travis Brown, Matt Caddell, and Nate Jones to futures contracts.
Of this group, Ah You is the best bet to make the Rams’ 2009 roster. St. Louis is going to lose La’Roi Glover and Leonard Little could be an offseason cap casualty. The rest of these guys are practice dummies for the spring.
