    Seahawks released TE Joe Newton.
Newton was unable to capitalize on injuries to players ahead of him to make the team. He will likely end up on the practice squad.
  • SEA Tight End
Seahawks signed TE Joe Newton, C Nick Jones, C Chris White, DT Jon Lewis, LS Tim Lindsey, G Pat Murray, RB Dan Curran, CB Omowale Dada, LB Cam Jensen, WR Jordan Kent, DE Nu’u Tafisi, DT Kelly Talavou, G Steve Vallos, and OT Kyle Williams to reserve/future contracts.
Newton and Kent may have the best chance of making the team next season after spending 2007 on the practice squad. Newton was undrafted out of Oregon State last April, but has soft hands and could help as a backup.
  • SEA Tight End
TE Joe Newton, who spent the last two seasons on the Seahawks’ practice squad, thinks he has his best chance yet to make the team.
John Carlson is the No. 1 TE, followed by veteran John Owens. Newton is up against rookies Cameron Morrah and John Tereshinkski for the No. 3 job. At 6-foot-7 and 250 pounds, Newton certainly has the body to contribute.
  • SEA Tight End
    Seahawks waived TE Joe Newton.
This is the same story as the last couple years for Newton. He gets close to the roster but not on it. Seahawks also waived S Jamar Adams, DE Baraka Atkins, K Brandon Coutu, G Brian De La Puente, CB Marquis Floyd, T Na’Shan Goddard, S Courtney Greene, WR Mike Hass, CB Kevin Hobbs, FB David Kirtman, RB Devin Moore, CB Nate Ness, WR Logan Payne, LB Dave Philistin, T Andre Ramsey, T William Robinson, QB Jeff Rowe and WR Courtney Taylor.
  • SEA Running Back
Seahawks waived FB David Kirtman, LB Dallas Sartz, TE Joe Newton, and P Reggie Hodges.
Kirtman was no longer needed with Leonard Weaver moving back to fullback full time. Hodges has leg, will travel.
  • SEA Wide Receiver
Seahawks signed WR Michael Bumpus, TE Joe Newton, CB Marquis Floyd, WR Billy McMullen, LS Ryan Senser, DT Kevin Brown, and TE John Tereshinski to reserve/future contracts.
Bumpus and McMullen saw action for Seattle in 2008 due to injuries ahead of them. Bumpus can play the slot and return punts, but lacks much upside.
  • SEA Tight End
Seahawks signed TE Joe Newton to an undisclosed contract.
Newton, who went undrafted out of Oregon State, has a great body and hands but lacks good speed. With how thin the Seahawks are behind Marcus Pollard at tight end, he should be a decent bet to make the team.
