Titans coach Brian Callahan said Jack Gibbens (ankle) will have surgery and will be out the remainder of the season.
“That was tough to watch and really unfortunate but he was playing well,” Callahan said after Gibbens rode a cart off on Sunday in a cast. It’s possible this injury lingers into next year. A 2022 UDFA, Gibbens had made 14 and 15 tackles the last two games as a starter and carried a 83.2 PFF grade. Jerome Baker, who came over in the Ernest Jones trade with the Seahawks, picked up as Tennessee’s other inside linebacker next to Kenneth Murray.
  • TEN Linebacker #17
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports the Seahawks traded LB Jerome Baker and a fourth-round draft pick to the Titans in exchange for LB Ernest Jones IV.
The Titans, in fire sale mode amid another lost season, are clearly looking to acquire future draft picks. They dealt Jones to the Seahawks after trading for him in the summer. Jones will join a Seattle defense graded by Pro Football Focus as the NFL’s 15th best unit. Baker, in his seventh NFL season, had 30 tackles and two tackles for a loss this season in Seattle.
  • SEA Linebacker #53
Seahawks LB Boye Mafe (knee) is questionable for Week 5 against the Giants.
Seahawks S Julian Love (thigh) is also questionable, though multiple defenders appear ready to return. LB Jerome Baker (hamstring), LB Uchenna Nwosu (knee), EDGE Leonard Williams (ribs) and LB Derick Hall (hip) enter the game without injury designations.
  • Leonard Williams (ribs) did not practice Friday.
Williams is one of five Seahawks front-seven defenders who have been unable to practice on both Thursday and Friday this week. The Seahawks play on Monday night. Rookie DT Byron Murphy II (hamstring) is expected to miss multiple weeks and LB Uchenna Nwosu (knee) has yet to take a regular season snap, although he was spotted wearing pads on Wednesday, before the official practice week began. LB Jerome Baker (hamstring) and LB Boye Mafe (knee) also remain sidelined.
  • SEA Linebacker #17
Seahawks LB Jerome Baker (hamstring) is doubtful to play in Week 3 against the Dolphins.
Baker surely would have liked to suit up against his former team but the Seahawks are evidently playing things conservatively. Baker joined practice in a limited capacity on Thursday and his Friday status has yet to be released. He has a good shot at suiting up for Week 4 against the Lions.
  • SEA Linebacker #53
Seahawks LB Boye Mafe (knee) did not participate in Wednesday’s practice.
Mafe led a lengthy injury report for the Seahawks front seven. He was a new addition with a knee injury and would be a crucial missing part after starting the season with two sacks in two games. LB Uchenna Nwosu (knee) remains out with an MCL sprain while LB Jerome Baker (hamstring) and DE Leonard Williams (knee) also did not participate in practice. The good news is that LB Derick Hall (hip) was limited and LB Tyrel Dodson (shoulder) and DT Jarran Reed (knee) were full participants. It is still early in the week, but Mike Macdonald’s defense hopes to get back key contributors before Week 3 against the Dolphins.
  • SEA Linebacker #17
Seahawks LB Jerome Baker (hamstring) is questionable for Week 2 against the Patriots.
Baker’s Friday practice designation has yet to be released but thanks to the Patriots, the official game designations have been released. Baker was a limited participant on both Wednesday and Thursday. Seahawks LB Tyrel Dodson (shoulder) is also questionable while LB Uchenna Nwosu (knee) has already been ruled out.
  • SEA Linebacker #10
Seahawks LB Uchenna Nwosu (knee) missed Wednesday’s practice.
Nwosu missed Week 1 with an MCL sprain and is expected to miss further time. LB Tyrel Dodson (shoulder) also did not practice, while Jerome Baker and Dre’Mont Jones were limited with hamstring issues. The Seahawks’ linebacking corps looks thinner with the injuries stacking up and Mike Macdonald’s defense hopes to get healthier later in the week for a Week 2 Patriots opponent featuring a bell cow running back in Rhamondre Stevenson.
  • SEA Linebacker #17
Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald said the team plans to have Jerome Baker (knee) ready for Week 1 against the Broncos.
Baker suffered a knee injury in the Dolphins’ Week 13 matchup last season and was released by the team this offseason with a failed physical designation after the two sides were unable to agree to a restructured deal. Baker later joined the Seahawks on a one-year deal, but the veteran linebacker has yet to participate in any of the team’s training camp practices. While Macdonald didn’t say when he expects Baker to come off the active/PUP list and begin practicing with the team, the team doesn’t appear too concerned about his Week 1 availability.
  • SEA Tackle #72
Seahawks placed OT Abe Lucas (knee) on the active/PUP list.
Lucas is continuing to rehab from a knee injury that plagued him through much of last season. Lucas was injured in Week 1 and wound up missing 11 games as a result. He allowed two sacks on 17 pressures while earning a PFF blocking grade of 53.1 — a steep drop-off from his rookie performance in 2022. In addition to Lucas, the Seahawks also placed linebackers Jerome Baker (knee) and Tyrel Dodson on the active/PUP list.
