Tyler Conklin (calf) did not participate in practice Thursday.
Conlin has now missed back-to-back practices with the calf issue. He’s been one of the few Jets who have had any sort of fantasy success the previous few weeks, but it appears that the 29-year-old is in danger of missing the finale against the Dolphins. That’d likely mean more snaps for Jeremy Ruckert.
  • NYJ Tight End #83
Tyler Conklin (personal) will not play in Week 15 against the Jaguars.
Per SNY’s Connor Hughes, Conklin and his wife were expecting the birth of their first child as of Saturday evening. Conklin didn’t travel with the team but there was some hope that he could still make it to Jacksonville in time for Sunday’s game. That won’t happen and Jeremy Ruckert will draw the start. Fantasy managers weren’t starting Conklin this week and don’t need to worry about Ruckert either.
  • FA Tight End
The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt believes Georgia TE Brock Bowers “will be tempting” for the Jets in the NFL Draft.
The Jets hold the tenth pick in the draft and could be in position to take Bowers and bolster a pass-catching group that has nothing outside Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall. Bowers did not work out at the NFL Combine while recovering from ankle surgery; he plans to work out at Georgia’s pro day March 13. Bowers, who had 175 receptions for 2,538 yards and 26 touchdowns at Georgia, would be a boon for Aaron Rodgers and the New York offense in 2024. The Jets’ current tight ends are Jeremy Ruckert and Tyler Conklin.
  • NYJ Tight End #89
Jets head coach Robert Saleh said TE Jeremy Ruckert will get more playing time.
Jets fans have clamored for months to get Ruckert on the field more in the struggling New York offense. An increase in Ruckert’s snaps would likely come at the expense of C.J. Uzomah, who seems to make weekly back-breaking mistakes as a pass catcher and a blocker. Ruckert, who has caught five of six targets for 43 yards this season, will probably be the team’s No. 2 tight end behind Tyler Conklin.
  • NYJ Tight End #89
The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt writes TE Jeremy Ruckert “was one of the biggest winners” of Jets OTAs.
“He appeared to receive the most targets of anyone other than Garrett Wilson in team drills and it looks look the time the Jets gave him to develop in 2022 suited him well. He should play a bigger role this season,” writes Rosenblatt. Ruckert is behind Tyler Conklin and C.J. Uzomah on the depth chart and probably won’t get a big enough share of the pie to be a fantasy target this year, but he’s worth monitoring in deeper dynasty leagues.

  • NYJ Tight End #89
Jets activated TE Jeremy Ruckert (foot) from the active/NFI list.
A third-round rookie, Ruckert missed the offseason program and the first week of camp because of a foot injury. Now healthy, he will compete for a role behind C.J. Uzomah and Tyler Conklin.

  • NYJ Tight End #89
Jets placed TE Jeremy Ruckert on the active/NFI list.
Players can come off the list at any time. Ruckert did work with the trainers in minicamp and it seems unlikely he’ll have a major fantasy role in 2022 behind CJ Uzomah and Tyler Conklin. It can’t be entirely ruled out, though, particularly if his stay on the list is a short one. The third-round rookie was one of the top tight end prospects in the 2022 draft.

  • NYJ Tight End #89
Jets TE Jeremy Ruckert (foot) didn’t participate in minicamp.
With TE C.J. Uzomah also sidelined, the missed time allowed Tyler Conklin to get the majority of first-team reps. Ruckert is expected to be cleared for training camp later this month. The third-round rookie projects to open the year as the Jets’ No. 3 tight end.

  • NYJ Tight End #83
The Athletic’s Connor Hughes reports Jets TE Tyler Conklin “might be separating himself” as the favorite to start Week 1.
Conklin was one of the risers of Jets’ OTAs with C.J. Uzomah and rookie TE Jeremy Ruckert missing time. Braxton Berrios has been Zach Wilson’s top target in the slot, but the second-year quarterback is “looking to his new tight end in the red zone.” The Jets are paying starters money to both Conklin ($7M) and Uzomah ($8M), making it likely they’ll open the season in a committee. Conklin profiles as the better fit for red-zone and pass-down snaps.

  • NYJ Tight End #89
Jets signed rookie third-round TE Jeremy Ruckert to a four-year contract.
Ruckert was a one-year starter at Ohio State who didn’t produce much as a receiver. That might not mean much, however, given that he was competing with Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba for targets. Ruckert is a capable blocker who could eventually carve out a meaningful role as a check-down receiver. However, With C.J. Uzomah and Tyler Conklin on the roster in 2022, Ruckert will have a hard time cracking the starting lineup as a rookie.
