It won’t be at all surprising to see George get in the game if the Bears get down big to the Vikings.

Jonathan Quinn will be demoted to No. 3. George won’t get a chance to start if Chad Hutchinson keeps playing so well.

We never got to see George play again and he’s unlikely to attract much interest this offseason. The Bears currently have Rex Grossman, Craig Krenzel, Chad Hutchinson, and Kurt Kittner under contract at quarterback.

Among those on the list: Jeff George, Rob Johnson, and Tim Couch. Rookie Ben Roethlisberger and second-year pro Brian St. Pierre are the only healthy QBs on Pittsburgh’s roster.

The signing was reported earlier in the weekend, but the paperwork was completed today. George will backup Chad Hutchinson for now.

Chad Hutchinson is the starter at this point, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see George starting a few weeks down the road. We wouldn’t run to your league’s waiver wire to pick him up just yet.

If he plays well and meshes with his teammates, Chicago will be interested in keeping him as Rex Grossman’s backup. They probably don’t feel the same about Jonathan Quinn.

''He told me he’s been throwing and throwing well,’' coach Steve Mariucci said. ''A bye week is a good time to evaluate some guys. We haven’t made any decisions to do anything differently today. This is just to know who’s ready, willing and able to come at a moment’s notice.’'

Unless George secures a backup role, he isn’t worth a roster spot on your fantasy team.

George, 39, is staying in shape and hoping a team will call. It’s possible he’ll field a few during training camp if backup quarterbacks get injured.
