Vikings traded with the Colts to select LSU DL Jaquelin Roy with the No. 141 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
The sixth-ranked defensive tackle in the 2020 recruiting class, Roy grew up in the shadow of Death Valley and made good on his heritage by staying home to play for the Tigers. His strengths lie in his immense upper body strength and wrecking ball hands. He puts a lot of strain on blockers by pressing up under their shoulder pads, so linemen that aren’t balanced between their top and bottom halves will struggle. However, Roy’s lower body is much slower and stiffer. Roy has good play recognition skills and is usually moving in the right direction, but due to his slow foot speed he isn’t always the one making the play. Though he played from a variety of alignments in Baton Rouge, an NFL team will likely ask him to put on big league weight and take over the one tech spot.

LSU junior DL Jaquelin Roy is expected to be among the nation’s best interior defensive linemen in 2022.
Roy (6'3/315) has already shown signs that he’s on the right trajectory to become one of the best defensive linemen in LSU history. That’s saying a lot for a program that has been identified as ‘DLU’ on multiple occasions. His 85.7 career pass rush grade puts him behind only former LSU defenders Arden Key and Devin White. Roy landed at No. 4 overall in the interior defensive linemen rankings of both Connor Rogers and Trevor Sikkema of PFF. Rogers had him directly behind Bryan Bresee, while Sikkema had him behind Siaki Ika.

  • NE Defensive Tackle #94
LSU junior DL Jaquelin Roy has been solid as a pass rusher.
Roy (6'3/315) is getting a solid amount of preseason buzz ahead of the fall of 2022. According to PFF, his 85.7 career pass rush grade to this point puts him behind only Former LSU defenders Arden Key and Devin White, meaning he’s very much on track to become an LSU defensive great. That’s also good for the second-highest pass rush grade in a season by an LSU defensive lineman since 2014.

LSU junior DL Jaquelin Roy is on the right trajectory to join the ranks of the Tigers’ greatest defensive players.
Roy (6'3/315) received a great mount of attention as one of the nation’s top recruits as a four-star prospect and looks to expound upon that in a huge way. He’s projected by some to be an early-round if not first-round pick when it comes time for him to declare for the draft. According to PFF, his 85.7 career pass rush grade to this point puts him behind only Former LSU defenders Arden Key and Devin White, meaning he’s very much on track to become an LSU defensive great.

  • NE Defensive Tackle #94
LSU junior DL Jaquelin Roy has some high expectations surrounding him heading into the 2022 season.
Roy (6'3/315) was a highly sought-after recruit, coming out of high school as a four-star prospect. After registering a combined 3.5 sacks over the past two years, some are predicting Roy could make a huge jump in 2022. In the newly released 2023 PFF Big Board, the Tiger is listed as a top prospect, taking the No. 5 spot, directly behind Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud. It will be interesting to see how he lives up to the expectations.

  • NE Defensive Tackle #94
Uncommitted four-star 2020 DT Jaquelin Roy was named the defensive line MVP at Tuesday’s Rivals 100 Five-Star Challenge.
“What stood out most all day about Roy is that he plays violent and fast and he has a relentless motor to attack the offensive linemen and get in the backfield,” Rivals recruiting analyst Adam Gorney wrote in his breakdown of Roy’s performance. The four-star DT from Baton Rouge was an LSU commit, but he decided in early March to reopen his recruitment. Another interesting note about Roy (6'4/285) from the camp is the fact that he’s dropped 25 pounds. That’s had a positive impact on his speed, and according to Gorney the weight loss didn’t negatively affect Roy’s strength, either.

Rivals’ Mike Farrell writes that uncommitted four-star 2020 DT Jaquelin Roy is “excellent at mixing things up and keeping offensive linemen guessing.”
“He’s very light on his feet and will be a solid pass rusher with more development,” notes Farrell, who is also keen on the 6-foot-4, 289-pounder’s counter moves and balance. The analyst tags Roy as a prospect who has surprised (in a positive way) during the offseason camp circuit. As for who might land the active defender, Roy has cut his field down to finalists Alabama, LSU and Texas A&M. He had previously been committed to the Tigers from September to March before reopening his recruitment. Rivals ranks the Baton Rouge native as the No. 73 overall prospect in the 2020 class.

According to 247Sports recruiting analyst, LSU has emerged as the favorite for uncommitted four-star 2020 DT Jacquelin Roy.
On June 24 Roy (6'4/289) revealed a top three of Alabama, LSU and Texas A&M, three days after he took his official visit to Texas A&M. There hasn’t been much action since when it comes to the Baton Rouge native’s recruitment, but based upon the predictions LSU may be back in the driver’s seat. Roy decided in March to reopen his recruitment after having made a verbal commitment to LSU last September.

Uncommitted four-star 2020 DT Jaquelin Roy is expected to announce his pledge on Friday evening.
Catching you up on Roy’s recruitment before he announces his choice, the 6-foot-4, 289-pounder is deciding between Alabama, Texas A&M and LSU. He was previously committed to the Tigers from September-March before backing off that pledge, but LSU very much remains a swinging contender for the Baton Rouge native. Roy plays with quick, light feet, plus all kinds of strength and explosion off his first step. The 247Sports composite board sees Roy as the No. 46 overall prospect in the 2020 class. At this juncture, the outlet’s Crystal Ball predicts an ultimate recommitment to LSU. We’ll pass along word when Roy crosses the finish line with his decision later on Friday.

LSU received a verbal commitment from four-star 2020 DT Jaquelin Roy.
It’s the second time that Roy has committed to LSU, as he was previously pledged to the school from September 2018 to March 2019. He also was considering Alabama and Texas A&M, but this always seemed like a likely commit to Baton Rouge. It’s a big get for the class, as 247Sports’ composite board has him as the 46th best player in the class. The 6-foot-4, 289-pound defender could compete for immediate playing time whenever he enrolls next year.
