Silva, who sports a fantastic surname, and Guzman now become practice squad candidates. Undrafted rookie Jordan Senn made it over Guzman.

Ratliff could be back later if Indy needs corner depth, but Silva will probably stay until Bob Sanders returns. His main role will be special teams.

A special teams star, Silva tore his ACL in Indianapolis’ first preseason game last summer. He was behind schedule in his rehab when his status was last updated in May. Silva is valuable when healthy, but he won’t be re-signed if there are any lingering issues with his knee.

Silva has been a reserve safety and special teamer for the Colts the past two years, playing in 25 games without a start. Bob Sanders’ return should afford Indy more depth at safety this year, provided he stays healthy.

He’s done for the year with a torn right ACL. Silva was second on the Colts with 15 special teams tackles in 2009. He’ll be back in 2011 to battle for a spot.

A special teams dynamo before tearing his right ACL last August, Silva will be an unrestricted free agent when NFL business resumes. Pro Football Weekly recently reported that the 26-year-old’s recovery is behind schedule.

Silva tore his right ACL in Indy’s 2010 preseason opener and spent the year on injured reserve. He is a restricted free agent, and it’s unclear if the Colts extended him a tender. Silva was their No. 2 special teams tackler in ’09.
