ESPN.com reports that the Eagles will trade wide receiver James Thrash to the Redskins for a 2005 fifth-round draft pick.
A fine deal for both sides. The Eagles have no need to go five deep at receiver, while the Redskins could certainly use some professional depth. Thrash will compete for the No. 2 receiver job, but don’t expect his numbers to improve in Washington. He won’t help as a fantasy starter.
  • WAS Wide Receiver
James Thrash is likely to start at wide receiver for the Redskins for the rest of the season.
The special teamer has 13 catches as the team’s third wideout. Don’t expect more than a few catches a week.
  • WAS Wide Receiver
WR James Thrash (hamstring) will not play Sunday.
Washington is very thin at receiver, with WR David Patten also out.
  • FA Wide Receiver #84
The Redskins will continue to use three-receiver sets often this season.
Brandon Lloyd should improve in his second year under coordinator Al Saunders, but may have to fight just to be in the top three. James Thrash has had a nice camp, Todd Pinkston just signed, and Mike Espy is competing.
  • WAS Wide Receiver
James Thrash will start in place of Santana Moss (groin) Sunday if Moss is unable to play.
It doesn’t look good for Moss. Thrash, a career special teamer, hasn’t caught more than 20 passes in a year since 2003. With an inconsistent QB throwing to him, Thrash is unlikely to be very useful against Detroit. Keenan McCardell and Reche Caldwell will also get playing time in a potential rotation opposite Antwaan Randle El.
  • FA Wide Receiver #89
Santana Moss (groin, doubtful) ran sprints at full speed on the sideline during practice Friday, and has a chance to be active for Week 5.
“At this point it’s feeling real good,” Moss said. “I’m just happy to be at this stage. I did what I wanted to do.” It is quite unlikely that Moss will be at full strength if he goes against Deroit, and he’s no sure bet to make it through an entire game. If Moss is inactive, special teamer James Thrash will start.
  • FA Wide Receiver #89
Santana Moss is listed as doubtful for Week 5 with a groin strain.
Moss didn’t practice at all this week. Coach Joe Gibbs said Moss might “sneak” onto the active roster if he looks good in pre-game, but the odds of him being productive are slim to none. James Thrash figures to take over at split end and share snaps with Keenan McCardell and Reche Caldwell.
  • WAS Wide Receiver
Redskins WR Mike Espy is out for the year with a ruptured patellar tendon.
Espy, a promising player those near the team were high on, was a second-year undrafted free agent. Todd Pinkston, Corey Bradford, and James Thrash will see more work on offense. Pinkston’s chances of making the team are growing.
  • DET Coaching Staff
Antwaan Randle El has been ruled out after suffering an apparent hamstring injury in the first half in Week 5. He finished with seven catches for 100 yards.
Randle El was on fire, torching the Lions secondary and set up a score with a 37-yard run and catch to the Lions one yard-line. James Thrash, who started for Santana Moss, Brandon Lloyd and the newly signed Reche Caldwell and Keenan McCardell are now the Redskins receivers. McCardell could quickly have some value before this one is over.
  • WAS Wide Receiver
James Thrash caught two passes for 11 yards in Week 5.
Thrash started in place of Santana Moss and he might have had a strong day, but he was the scant few errant throws from Jason Campbell. Thrash may continue to start, but he is not a viable fantasy option. He did have a 65-yard punt return that set up a touchdown.
