Dearth

Dearth injured the foot in Thursday’s practice, after signing with the Bolts on Wednesday. We can’t remember -- ever -- two long snappers being placed on injured reserve by a team over the course of the season, let alone in the span of two days. Former Bill Ryan Neill was signed to take over.

Rookie Nick Sundberg turned out not to be the answer, so the Redskins went with the 34-year-old former Jets long snapper.

It appears they’re going with Nick Sundberg, after all.

Dearth has 146 games’ worth of experience, so he’d figure to be a fine replacement for David Binn. Dearth, though, lost out to undrafted rookie Nick Sundberg in Skins camp, and has presumably lost something off his fastball.

Dearth, 35, spent all of last season on injured reserve with a fractured foot. He replaces incumbent Matt Katula, who was let go by the Pats on Monday.

Dearth is expected to be replaced by Danny Aiken as long snapper. Maneri is a developmental prospect after playing tight end at Temple.
