  • DEN Wide Receiver #15
Appalachian State senior WR Jalen Virgil returned a kickoff for 100 yards in a 25-23 loss to Miami.
Virgil (6'1"/210) caught this ball about two yards in the end zone, he went to the right sideline, missed a couple of tackles, made a cut as a Hurricanes defender dived in front of him, then it was a foot race after that. This score gave the Mountaineers their only lead of the game at 14-12. Appalachian State will host Elon this Saturday 9/18.

Appalachian State senior WR Jalen Virgil caught three passes for 45 yards and a touchdown and a returned a kick for a score in a 34-26 win over Georgia Southern on Saturday.
Virgil (6'1/205) got the Mountaineers on the board with a 16-yard touchdown connection with Zac Thomas. He showed off his impressive speed again -- Virgil was ranked third on Bruce Feldman’s “freaks” list this summer because of his athleticism -- on a 100-yard kickoff return for a score. Because of his size and ability to make plays, Virgil has a good chance of being looked at in an NFL camp this summer.

  • DEN Wide Receiver #15
Appalachian State senior WR Jalen Virgil is ranked third on Bruce Feldman’s annual “Freaks” list.
Virgil’s vertical jump wasn’t the only reason why he landed so high on the list. He was also clocked at 10.29 seconds on the 100-meter dash, boasts a 10-feet, 11-inch broad jump and a bench press max of 405 pounds. As part of a loaded wide receiving corps, Virgil caught 24 passes for 383 yards and four touchdowns. He will once again be a key contributor in the passing game for the Sun Belt champions.

Appalachian State junior WR Jalen Virgil caught three passes for 62 yards in Saturday’s 31-17 win over UAB in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.
Virgil (6'1/210) didn’t get the glory of two touchdowns like teammate Thomas Hennigan, but he did manage to lead the team in receiving yards for their season finale. Though Virgil only caught 21 passes this year, he is a vital complementary piece to Appalachian State’s offense. He is one of many juniors who will return as seniors next year, giving the Mountaineers’ offense massive potential to take over the conference (well, again).
  • DEN Wide Receiver #15
Appalachian State junior WR Jalen Virgil caught five passes for 95 yards with a touchdown in a 48-13 blowout win on Friday over Troy.
Virgil didn’t lead the Mountaineers in catches (Tim Hennigan, 11) or touchdowns (Malik Williams with two), but it is the best game of the season for the 6-foot-1, 210-pound junior; or at least the best since his 3-86-2 game against Charlotte way back on September 7. Virgil has picked up just 20 catches on the year, but he does have four touchdowns now for the 11-1 Mountaineers. We’ll see if he’s this involved next Saturday when Virgil and Appalachian State square off with Louisiana in the conference championship game.
  • DEN Wide Receiver #15
Appalachian State junior WR Jalen Virgil caught his third touchdown pass of the season in Saturday’s 52-7 win over ULM.
Virgil (6'1/210) has only caught eight passes this season, but he has tended to make the most of his opportunities. The junior wide receiver, who is one of the fastest players in college football, is averaging 18.4 yards per reception. Counting Saturday’s output, Virgil has scored a total of four touchdowns (three receiving, one rushing) on ten touches (eight receptions, two rushes) this season. Next up for Virgil and his teammates is a game at South Alabama next weekend.

Appalachian State junior WR Jalen Virgil caught three passes for 84 yards and two scores in a 56-41 win over Charlotte on Saturday.
Virgil (6'1/206) is one of the best athletes in the Sun Belt -- and all of college football, really -- and he showed off his speed on Saturday. He connected with Zac Thomas on a 73-yard strike in this one, and he also found the end zone on a 10-yard strike. Virgil should remain the go-to player in this passing attack, and the Mountaineers will need him to have a big game in two weeks when Appalachian State faces off against UNC.
  • DEN Wide Receiver #15
Appalachian State junior WR Jalen Virgil ran the 100 meters in 10.30 seconds (wind-aided) at the Sun Belt Outdoor Track & Field Championships this spring.
Virgil (6'1/206) is ranked 15th on Bruce Feldman’s “Freaks” list and with good reason, as he’s one of the fastest players in college football. But it isn’t solely about speed for the rising junior wideout, as according to Feldman he boasts a 40.5-inch vertical, a broad jump of 10 feet, 11 inches and has benched 405 pounds. The next step for Virgil is to make a greater impact on the Appalachian State offense, after catching 17 passes for 238 yards last season. That could be tough however, as the Mountaineers return eight of their top nine pass-catchers from that Sun Belt-winning squad.

Appalachian State coach Eli Drinkwitz noted that junior WR Jalen Virgil ran a 10.6 100-meter dash in a track meet.
Virgil (6'2/210) is a size-speed specimen who also clocked a 4.26 40-yard dash in the offseason. If that isn’t enough, he was a part of Bruce Feldman’s notable “Freaks” list as well. Despite being incredibly fast, Virgil’s role is likely to remain largely unchanged as the Mountaineers return eight of their nine leading pass-catchers from last season.
  • DEN Wide Receiver #15
Appalachian State freshman WR Jalen Virgil caught five passes for 186 yards and two touchdowns in a 37-29 victory.
Coming into the day, Virgil had nine catches for 122 yards. Those numbers both went up. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound wideout dominated the Chanticleer secondary, hauling in an 83-yard score in the first from quarterback Taylor Lamb, and scored again from 53 yards out in the third quarter. There’s no guarantee he’ll be included in future gameplans, but he looks like a playmaker against Coastal Carolina on Saturday.
