Raiders signed WR Jalen Guyton, formerly of the Chargers.
Guyton joins a relatively crowded receiver room. Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers are locked for their typical roles and second-year receiver Tre Tucker is also expected to take another step forward. Couple all of this with the fact they recently signed Michael Gallup, and it’s hard to imagine Guyton earning anything more than a backup role. He spent the majority of his time as a backup while with the Chargers, often keeping opposing secondaries on their toes while sprinting repeatedly downfield. Guyton has played in 46 games over his five-year career and has a receiving line of 71-1112-7. He’s been targeted on just 10.3 percent of his routes run, which is about what we’d expect for a one-trick pony.
  • FA Wide Receiver #15
ESPN’s Field Yates reports the Raiders hosted free agent WR Jalen Guyton for a visit.
One of the league’s premiere wind sprinters, Guyton caught just 10 passes for 89 yards and a touchdown last season and has a career line of 71-1112-7 over 46 games. Possessing long speed and the ability to occasionally blow past defenders, Guyton has plenty to offer teams as a field stretcher, but he doesn’t do much in the way of demanding targets when on the field. Whether it’s with the Raiders or another team, he should get a chance to compete for a spot on a 53-man roster this offseason.
  • LAC Wide Receiver #5
Chargers WR Josh Palmer (knee) will not play in Week 14 against the Rams.
Palmer is on injured reserve. The Chargers opened his practice window earlier this week, giving them 21 days to officially activate him. Brandon Staley was previously non-committal on Palmer’s ability to return at any point this season after he suffered the knee injury. Palmer is making progress, but he could still be held out another week or two as a precaution. For now, Jalen Guyton will serve as Justin Herbert’s WR2.
  • LAC Wide Receiver #15
Jalen Guyton caught 1-of-3 targets for five yards in the Chargers’ Week 13 win over the Patriots.
One of Guyton’s missed connections was a first quarter end zone look. He was barely heard from after as the Pats played a tough defensive game in the rain. Guyton is probably going to pop up for a long score at some point, but there is little point in trying to predict when. He’s not much of a WR5 heading into Week 14 against the Broncos.
  • LAC Wide Receiver #15
Jalen Guyton caught 1-of-5 targets for four yards in the Chargers’ Week 12 loss to the Ravens.
Even with rookie wide receiver Quentin Johnston departing early with injury, Guyton managed just one catch on the evening. Guyton has never been able to command targets at an elite rate in a downfield role, but things have never been this bad for the downfield threat. He can safely be left on the waiver wire for the remainder of the season.
  • LAC Wide Receiver #15
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Jalen Guyton (groin) is expected to play in Week 12 against the Ravens.
Guyton missed Week 11 with the groin injury but was back for a trio of limited practices before being listed as questionable on Friday. Getting Guyton back as the offense’s best deep threat should help Justin Herbert out against the stalwart Baltimore defense, even if Guyton is simply creating space for his teammates on most plays. Guyton will rank as a boom/bust WR5 for his Week 12 matchup with the Ravens.
  • LAC Wide Receiver #15
Chargers WR Jalen Guyton (groin) is questionable for Week 12 against the Ravens.
Guyton was a limited participant in practice throughout the week before being listed as questionable. He missed Week 11 because of the groin injury but appears to be ready to return this week. He will rank as a WR5 in a difficult matchup with Baltimore’s elite defense.
  • LAC Wide Receiver #13
Chargers WR Keenan Allen (shoulder) was a full practice participant on Thursday.
Allen has been dealing with a shoulder injury, but still played in Week 11, earning 16 targets. He was limited on Wednesday, but a full practice upgrade for Thursday indicates little concern for Allen’s Week 12 status against the Ravens. Among the other Chargers pass-catchers, Gerald Everett (chest) and Jalen Guyton (groin) were limited as Justin Herbert’s weapons aim to get healthier.
  • LAC Wide Receiver #15
Chargers WR Jalen Guyton (groin) returned to practice on Wednesday.
Guyton returned to action in Week 9 after missing over a year with an ACL injury. He then injured his groin and missed Week 11 against the Packers. However, the fact that he’s able to get back on the practice field on Wednesday is a good sign for his availability this weekend. While Guyton is prone to injuries, he has produced when on the field, including making four catches for 41 yards and a touchdown against the Lions in Week 10. With rookie Quentin Johnston continuing to struggle to produce like an NFL receiver, it’s possible Guyton can emerge as the WR2 for the Chargers down the stretch.
  • LAC Wide Receiver #13
Keenan Allen (shoulder) is active for Week 11 against the Packers.
Jalen Guyton (groin), meanwhile, is inactive. It leaves the Chargers dangerously short-handed at receiver, especially since Allen is at risk of re-injury. The Packers will at least be missing top corner Jaire Alexander. Allen is a high-end WR1. Joining Guyton on the sideline are TE Gerald Everett, CB Essang Bassey, RB Elijah Dotson, OL Zack Bailey and DL Scott Matlock.
