Falcons signed WR/KR Jakeem Grant, formerly of the Browns.
The former second-team All-Pro special teams ace has not played a regular season snap since 2021 as a member of the Bears and Dolphins. A preseason season-ending torn Achilles in 2022 derailed his time spent with the Browns, prompting his release. Grant could stick with the Falcons as a kick return specialist but is unlikely to earn regular snaps at wide receiver, even with the recent season-ending injury to Rondale Moore.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports free agent WR Jakeem Grant will participate in Jets minicamp on a tryout basis.
Grant suffered a season-ending knee injury last preseason with the Browns and hasn’t played a regular-season snap since 2021. Grant suffered a torn Achilles in training camp in 2022 but was a second-team All-Pro in 2020 and 2021 while with the Dolphins and Bears. Grant has never totaled more than 373 yards as a receiver and wouldn’t come with any fantasy upside if he were to make the Jets’ 53-man roster.

Browns WR/KR Jakeem Grant (knee) will miss the 2023 season.
Grant was taken off the field by cart with his leg in an air cast Saturday. It was his first game action since suffering a torn Achilles in the 2022 season.
  • CLE Wide Receiver #9
Browns WR/PR Jakeem Grant was carted off the field with an air cast on his leg during the team’s third preseason game Saturday.
Grant was recently cleared to return to game action after working his way back from a torn Achilles suffered last season and was in line to serve as the primary punt returner for the Browns in the coming season. No update has been provided but it looks as if Grant is likely to miss time in 2023.
  • Wide Receiver #80
Browns WR Jakeem Grant (Achilles) hasn’t been cleared to practice at OTAs.
Grant was limited to fielding punts at team workouts. The 30-year-old is working his way back from a torn Achilles in last year’s preseason. Grant is expected to open 2023 as Cleveland’s kick returner.

  • Wide Receiver #80
Browns placed WR Jakeem Grant on injured reserve with a torn Achilles, ending his season.
Grant was carted off the practice field on Tuesday with fears that he suffered a torn Achilles; that was confirmed on Wednesday. Grant was in line to serve as the Browns’ return man, likely with a package role on offense as well. He signed a three-year contract with the Browns in March and will look to return in 2023, his age-30 season.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that Browns WR Jakeem Grant is “feared to have torn his Achilles” after he was carted off the practice field with a left leg injury.
It happened in one-on-one drills and several of the beat writers on the scene were quick to offer prayers. More tests are coming to confirm, but Grant was visibly frustrated both on the ground and as he was carted off. We’ll update as we know more, but this has the look of a serious injury for Grant. He reportedly could not put weight on the leg. From a fantasy perspective, this could open up a returner competition for the Browns as well as be a boon to the younger players on the wideout depth chart.

Browns signed WR Jakeem Grant to a three-year contract.
The deal is worth “up to” $13.8 million. We would assume “up to” is doing a lot of work here. The 5-foot-7 return man had been with the Dolphins since 2016 until the Bears acquired him last October. He made a few big plays down the field as a pass catcher in Chicago, but his primary impact was on special teams, where he cracked the top five in punt-return average (11.9 yards). That number was 13.9 when isolated to his time in the Windy City, which would have placed second to only the Giants’ C.J. Board. The Browns badly need play-making ability in their receiver corps, but Grant has caught more than 21 balls only one time. He turns 30 in October.

Bears placed WR Jakeem Grant on injured reserve.
It’s reportedly a minor ankle injury, one that will not prevent Grant from playing in the Feb. 6 Pro Bowl where he will participate as a return man. Grant ends the 2021 season with 132 receiving yards despite carrying a negative-seven receiving yards tag with the Dolphins. Acquired from Miami for a sixth-round pick, Grant had a wild punt-return touchdown against the Packers on Sunday Night Football. Grant is scheduled to become a free agent in 2022 and should find return work somewhere.

Jakeem Grant caught 1-of-2 targets for a 46-yard touchdown in the Bears’ Week 14 loss to the Packers, adding one rush for five yards.
Grant was Chicago’s star on Sunday night, returning a punt for a dazzling 97-yard touchdown and scoring his 46-yard touchdown on a shovel pass from Justin Fields. Grant, who saw seven targets in Week 13 against Arizona, has played his way into a rotational role in the Chicago offense. Against Green Bay, he played 48 percent of the team’s offensive snaps. Grant profiles as a boom-or-bust Week 15 option against the Vikings.
