Cardinals signed undrafted Michigan State DL Jacob Slade.
Slade (6’3/285) primarily played defensive end for the Spartans before sliding to the interior. However, his run-stopping ability and brute strength will likely help him transition inside at the next level, as he provides no upside in pass rush. At his best, Slade will shield himself against a blocker using an arm bar and simultaneously close down a hole to occupy another. His ceiling is probably similar to Igor Olshansky. Slade will need to substantially improve his lower body flexibility if he wants to be able to bring down NFL running backs, as his 24% missed tackle rate from last year will not suffice in the league.

Michigan State redshirt senior DE Jacob Slide has proven effective against stopping the run.
Slade 6'4/315) had a successful 2021 season in more ways than one. It was by far the best year of his career on the stats sheet as he totaled 40 combined tackles (16 solo), 2.5 sacks, two passes defended and one fumble recovery. According to Pro Football Focus, his 27 run stops last season were the most among returning Power Five defensive tackles. He’s a bit more under the radar than several other defensive players in the country this season, but that could change if he maintains this level of success in this category and builds upon last year’s success.

Michigan State received a verbal commitment from three-star 2018 DE Jacob Slade.
While Slade is listed as a defensive end on Scout.com, Michigan State is probably looking to utilize him at defensive tackle. Scout analyst Bill Greene writes that the 6-foot-4, 240-pounder “will probably be a 3-technique tackle in the Spartan defense, looking to shoot gaps and disrupt plays behind the line of scrimmage by using his quickness.” In a fun note of sorts, Slade’s twin brother, Zach (a defensive end) has also committed to Michigan State.
