    Texans released RB J.J. Taylor.
Taylor appeared in five games last year, rushing 10 times for 44 yards, and has yet to receiver more than 23 carries in an NFL season. The 27-year-old will look to catch on elsewhere on a practice squad or on the backend of a roster.
  • HOU Running Back #26
J.J. Taylor rushed six times for 18 yards in Houston’s Week 4 win over the Jaguars.
He was targeted once. Taylor wound up getting a couple of red-zone carries and not doing much with them. Taylor will likely remain on the practice squad in Week 5 with Joe Mixon on schedule to return.
  • FA Running Back #38
Texans waived/released RB J.J. Taylor, DT McTelvin Agim, LB Tarique Barnes, DE Solomon Byrd, WR Quintez Cephus, G Dieter Eiselen, DE Malik Fisher, DE Ali Gaye, FB Troy Hairston, DT Marcus Harris, WR Johnny Johnson III, CB Troy Pride, WR Ben Skowronek, RB J.J. Taylor, LB Max Tooley, OT Kilian Zierer, FB Nick Bawden, FB Andrew Beck, QB Tim Boyle, WR Noah Brown, T Cameron Erving, CB Mike Ford, OT Charlie Heck, CB CJ Henderson, S Lonnie Johnson Jr., CB Desmond King II, LB Jacob Phillips, OG Chris Reed, CB D’Angelo Ross, and OT David Sharpe.
The Texans are keeping Dameon Pierce and Cam Akers as backup options for Joe Mixon. British Brooks made the roster as the team’s fullback. Taylor will be a candidate for the team’s practice squad.
  • HOU Running Back #42
KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson reports RB J.J. Taylor is signing with the Texans’ practice squad following a visit Tuesday.
Taylor spent time with the Patriots each of the last three seasons before getting released in August prior to the 2023 season. He joins the Texans practice squad, where he will get opportunity should Dameon Pierce or Devin Singletary get hurt. Taylor should only be on fantasy radars if anything changes for Houston’s backfield.
  • FA Running Back #26
Patriots signed RB J.J. Taylor, LB Terez Hall, DB Brad Hawkins, OL Hayden Howerton, DB Quandre Mosely, LB Calvin Munson, WR Tre Nixon, DL Jeremiah Pharms Jr., DL LaBryan Ray, TE Matt Sokol, and TE Scotty Washington to reserve/future contracts.
Taylor was active for Week 9 in Damien Harris’ stead, carrying 10 times for nine yards in his only appearance of the season. Both Kevin Harris and Pierre Strong appear to be well ahead of him on the depth chart at this point.

  • FA Running Back #26
Patriots declared RB J.J. Taylor, S Josh Bledsoe, DT Sam Roberts, RB Kevin Harris, and CB Shaun Wade inactive for Week 11 against the Jets.
With Damien Harris back in the lineup, Taylor is back to being a healthy scratch. The Patriots will likely use quite a bit of both Rhamonndre Stevenson and Damien Harris this week. Stevenson profiles as a high-end RB2 with Harris being more of a desperation start.

  • NE Running Back #38
Rhamondre Stevenson rushed 15 times for 60 yards, adding three receptions for 10 yards and one touchdown on seven targets in the Patriots’ Week 9 win over the Colts.
Stevenson ran well in this game, but J.J. Taylor had a surprisingly big role, seeing 11 touches to Stevenson’s 18. Some of Taylor’s snaps game in pure garbage time, but he also saw a first and goal carry, which was the Patriots’ first play of that drive. Stevenson came in for the next snap and scored a three-yard receiving TD on a beautiful one-handed catch. Stevenson will be an RB2 when the Patriots return from bye to face the Jets in Week 11, with Damien Harris presumably back to full health.

  • FA Running Back #26
    Patriots waived RB J.J. Taylor.
Taylor bulked up this offseason, but looked noticeably slower in the preseason. This likely means that Pierre Strong will be the main receiving-down threat to Rhamondre Stevenson barring an external addition. Taylor, 24, could field some calls from teams looking to add a younger third-down back.

  • NE Running Back #28
Patriots RB James White (hip) is a candidate to start the regular season on the reserve/PUP list.
White never advanced beyond on-field drills at minicamp. The Patriots have depth to play it slow with White, making it possible the 30-year-old won’t be cleared for training camp next month. Short-term IR could also be an option for White, costing him four games instead of the six he would miss on PUP.

  • GB Running Back #22
The Sports Hub’s Alex Barth believes fourth-round RB Pierre Strong “looks like the best fit” to replace James White (hip surgery) as the Patriots’ pass down back.
With White limited at OTAs, the Patriots got an extended look at Strong and sixth-round RB Kevin Harris. Strong was known for his blocking at South Dakota State, where he was used as a lead blocker on quarterback runs, and had 22 catches his senior year. The Patriots drafted Strong two rounds higher than Harris, giving Strong the edge for snaps if White misses time. White landing on reserve/PUP would improve third-year RB J.J. Taylor’s roster chances.
