Bears signed sixth-round FB J.D. Runnels to a four-year contract.
The 195th player drafted overall is a rare breed these days; a pure fullback. He started 20 games at Oklahoma and should make the Bears if he’s strong on special teams.

Bears FB J.D. Runnels will miss the season after tearing his ACL in OTAs.
This explains Obafemi Ayanbadejo’s signing. Runnels, Adrian Peterson’s former lead blocker at Oklahoma, will have appeared in just two games in his first two seasons heading to 2008. He was a sixth-round pick a year ago.

    Bengals waived FB J.D. Runnels.
Runnels, 25, lost out to Jeremi Johnson and rookie Fui Vakapuna.
  • Bucs signed G Phil Bogle and waived FB J.D. Runnels.
Bogle has been out of the league since 2005. Runnels was a camp body.

    Bears waived FB J.D. Runnels.
He looked promising while lead blocking for Adrian Peterson at Oklahoma, but All Day will make a lot of people appear better than they actually are.

    Bucs signed fullback J.D. Runnels.
The Bears waived Runnels on July 24. A sixth-round pick out of Oklahoma in 2006, he spent all of last year on injured reserve.

Rookie J.D. Runnels will be the Bears’ No. 2 fullback this season.
Runnels had an ankle injury in camp but the team needs him with Bryan Johnson (hamstring) on injured reserve and Thump Belton on the waiver wire. Jason McKie will be the team’s starter.
  • TB Wide Receiver
Bengals signed WRs Mario Urrutia and Maurice Purify, OL James Blair, CB Marcus Brown, OL Digger Bujnoch, DE Victor DeGrate, and FB J.D. Runnels to reserve/future contracts.
They’ll all go to offseason workouts with Cincinnati. Urrutia was the Bengals’ seventh-round pick in 2008 and has lots of talent. He could get a long look in the spring if T.J. Houshmandzadeh leaves in free agency.
