Texans selected Rhode Island WR Isaiah Coulter with the No. 171 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Coulter’s (6'2/198) 4.45 40-speed helped him blaze FCS competition with ease at Rhode Island, but his 72/1,039/8 receiving as a true junior still takes precedence among small school wideouts. As The Athletic’s Dane Brugler notes, Coulter also stepped up to the plate with 9/152/0 against Virginia Tech, 2/53/1 against Ohio, and 10/156/1 versus UConn in his three career games in FBS play. His athletic profile left a lot to be desired outside of straight-line speed, but Coulter did enough at Rhode Island to fight his way in front of scouts. The rest of his career will come to the coaching staff(s) that choose to develop him.

Pro Football Network’s Brad Kelly wrote that Rhode Island WR Isaiah Coulter could benefit developmentally from entering the NFL a year early.
Coulter (6'2/198) made the decision to forego his final season of eligibility, which doesn’t happen all that often at the FCS level, but the speed and raw athleticism make him a potential Day 3 selection. But in order to stick, he’ll need to make some strides especially in the strength department. “Coulter has surprising athletic traits and explosiveness, which gives him a notable ceiling as a route runner,” Kelly wrote. “Entering the NFL a year early should prove beneficial, as he still needs to progress in the weight room.”

Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller writes that Rhode Island WR Isaiah Coulter’s “ability to track and attack the ball is impressive.”
“He’s shown the speed and agility to be a threat in the NFL,” Miller notes of the 6-foot-2, 198-pound Coulter, whom he tags as his “Sleeper of the Week” in his latest scouting notebook. There is a major step up in competition which Coulter will have to go through if he is to carve out a role in the NFL, but yeah, the Rhode Island wideout plays with real wheels. Coulter ran the 40-yard dash in 4.45 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine. Keep him in mind as a potential Day 3 dart throw.

Rhode Island WR Isaiah Coulter ran the 40-yard dash in 4.45 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Coulter (6'2/198) showed out very well in comparison with his more seasoned FBS brethren on Thursday. Just five receivers in the first group running bettered that time of 4.45 seconds. NFL Media’s Lance Zierlein is keen on Coulter’s upside, calling him an “explosive high-upside talent.” Albeit with a lower floor. A potential diamond in the rough for Day 3, here.

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein compared Rhode Island WR Isaiah Coulter to free agent WR Marquess Wilson.
Zierlein loves the 6-foot-3, 190-pound Coulter’s pure athleticism -- he calls the Rhode Island wideout “raw but talented” -- while noting on the more problematic side of the equation that Coulter has real issues with his routes, both in terms of his route tree (it’s limited) and his lack of attention to detail. Count Coulter as a potential Day 3 diamond in the rough. As Zierlein concludes, he is “an explosive, high-upside talent with functional-starter upside, but a lower floor.”
