Giants signed OG Greg Van Roten, formerly of the Raiders.
Per ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, Jermaine Eluemunor is going to play right tackle with Van Roten at right guard. That means Evan Neal is the odd man out. The former top-10 pick is currently on the PUP list and doesn’t appear to have a role in the New York offense. Van Roten started all 17 games for the Raiders last year and is a solid addition for a team that fielded one of the league’s worst offensive lines in 2023.
  • ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports the Giants hosted free agent OG Greg Van Roten for a visit.
Van Roten started all 17 games at right guard for the Raiders last season, earning a PFF blocking grade of 75.3 on 1,025 offensive snaps. He’s played on three different teams over the last three years and has started 71 of the 110 career games he’s appeared in. The Giants had one of the worst offensive lines in the league last season and could benefit from some upgrades — specifically along the interior. Ben Bredeson and Justin Pugh, who led the team in snaps at both guard positions last season, are no longer with the team. Van Roten could likely earn the starting job in camp if he were to sign.

Raiders signed OG Greg Van Roten, formerly of the Bills, to a contract.
Van Roten appeared in nine games for the Bills last season, starting once at center and twice at guard. A versatile interior lineman, Van Roten is a well-traveled veteran of the league who has also spent time with the Jets, Panthers, and Packers. He’ll likely serve as added depth for the Raiders but can fill in at a moment’s notice should a player ahead of him go down.

Bills signed OG Greg Van Roten to a one-year contract.
The terms of the deal are not yet known. In May, Van Roten was released by the Jets, who cleared $3.5 million in cap with the move. Van Roten is entering his age-32 season, but started 10-of-17 games for the Jets in 2021 and is a capable veteran guard. The Bills struggled with their offensive line depth last season and Van Roten should help in that regard.

The Athletic’s Connor Hughes reports the Jets may welcome back recently released OG Greg Van Roten.
Van Roten was released by the Jets on Friday in a move that cleared $3.5 million in cap space for the team. Hughes also reports that the Jets’ decision to release Van Roten was also done with the hopes that he may find another place to start in 2022. Van Roten has logged 50 career starts over his seven year career, and started 10-of-17 games for the Jets last season. It sounds as if he could still end up back with the team if a starting opportunity elsewhere doesn’t present itself.

Jets released OG Greg Van Roten.
The move clears $3.5 million against the cap. Van Roten, 32, loses his roster spot after the Jets claimed fellow veteran — and younger — OG Nate Herbig off waivers. Van Roten started 10-of-17 games for the Jets last season and has 50 games of starting experience with the Panthers and Jets over the last several seasons. He should land an interior reserve gig elsewhere.

Jets placed RG Greg Van Roten on injured reserve with a toe injury.
What’s another injury when you’re 0-12? It is the second straight year Van Roten’s toe has landed him on I.R. Van Roten will be eligible to return in Week 17, but it is safe to assume he will simply be shut down. Van Roten hasn’t quite been a disaster on Sam Darnold’s right side, but the 30-year-old journeyman also isn’t a long-term answer, and will likely be replaced by the ever-rebuilding Jets in 2021.

  • FA Running Back #21
Frank Gore (concussion) has been ruled out for the remainder of Week 13 against the Raiders.
Gore was hit in a helmet-to-helmet collision on his first carry of the game. It knocked Raiders CB Damon Arnette out of the game, too. With Gore sidelined, the Jets have used Ty Johnson and Josh Adams interchangeably with the lean towards Johnson in the first half. Jets RG Greg Van Roten (foot) has also been ruled out for the remainder of the contest.

  • FA Guard #65
    Jets released OG Brian Winters.
Winters suffered a dislocated shoulder that ended his season after nine games last year. He started in all nine in 2019 and 16 in 2018. The veteran guard started a total of 79 games for Gang Green in seven years of service. Winters isn’t expected to be a free agent for long. He could compete for a starting job on any team thin at interior offensive line. Greg Van Roten, who the Jets added this offseason, is the likely starter in place of Winters. The move saves New York $7.2 million in cap space.

Jets signed OG Greg Van Roten, formerly of the Panthers.
Van Roten had started 27 straight games in Carolina before ending last year on injured reserve with a toe injury. The Jets have plucked away at their offensive line need this free agency, bringing in multiple veteran free agents, but still could address the position early in the upcoming draft. Van Roten was the No. 5 interior offensive lineman on Nick Mensio’s free agency tracker. 2020 will be his age-30 season.
