Chargers tendered exclusive rights free agent OT Foster Sarell.
He’ll be a backup behind Trey Pipkins and Rashawn Slater next season. Sarell was forced into extensive action late last season and was not particularly good in his small sample of work, as you’d expect from an undrafted free agent.

  • LAC Tackle #79
Chargers RT Trey Pipkins (knee) did not practice Wednesday.
Pipkins aggravated his MCL sprain against the Falcons in Week 9. Coach Brandon Staley called him day to day, but it would not be a shock if he is forced to sit this week. Surprisingly, practice squad OT Foster Sarell was getting the snaps at right tackle in Wednesday’s practice. Obviously, it would not be great for Justin Herbert if Sarell is forced to suit up.

  • LAC Tackle #73
Uncommitted four-star 2017 T Foster Sarell was named the offensive line MVP at The Opening.
“Sturdy and strong, Sarell consistently handled power-rush efforts by absorbing contact and countering with an effective punch,” wrote Bleacher Report’s Tyler Donohue. Fellow 2017 tackle Trey Smith -- ESPN 300’s No. 1 overall prospect -- offered his own scouting report of Sarell for BR. “He’s impressive when it comes to foot movement,” Smith noted, “and uses the drive-catch concept really well.” Sarell has drawn offers from the likes of Alabama, Michigan, Stanford and Washington. The 6-foot, 300-pounder stands as Rivals’ No. 32 overall prospect for the 2017 cycle.
  • LAC Tackle #73
ESPN’s Craig Haubert notes that while Stanford four-star 2017 verbal T commit Foster Sarell is unrefined on the technical level, he has raw potential to be molded.
“Sarell...can do a better job with punch and pad level in pass protection,” Haubert writes, “but he is a big man with outstanding raw strength and good feet and what is needed to be corrected can be coached by Stanford OL coach Mike Bloomgren.” Sorell and fellow T commit Walker Little figure to serve as anchors on either side of the line with the Cardinal, with Haubert seeing Little as a fit at right tackle and Sorell a fit at left tackle. Eight of Stanford’s nine current commitments come on the offensive side of the ball.
  • LAC Tackle #73
Stanford received a verbal commitment from four-star T Foster Sarell.
The Cardinal have received verbal commitments from two of the best offensive linemen in the country in Walker Little (ESPN 300 No. 75) and now Sarrell (ESPN 300 No. 12). The latter opted to commit to HC David Shaw’s cause over Washington, USC, Nebraska and Notre Dame. The 6-foot, 315-pounder has been charging hard since the summer and earned offensive line MVP honors at The Opening back in July. At the time, Bleacher Report’s Tyler Donohue noted that he “consistently handled power-rush efforts” at the annual summer camp. ESPN 300 refers to Sarell as a “massive offensive line prospect [who] should develop into a dominant run blocker at the next level.”
