Bears WR Chase Claypool will not play in Week 5 against the Commanders.
The Bears also ruled out safety Eddie Jackson and cornerback Jaylon Johnson for their Week 5 bout with Washington. Claypool is expected to remain away from his team until the Bears can find a trade partner for the struggling wideout. The continued absences of Jackson and Johnson will keep the Bears near the bottom of the league in most pass-defense metrics. Sam Howell is in a great spot to turn things around after a rocky start to his second NFL season.
  • FA Tight End #85
Patriots placed TE David Thomas, DL Richard Seymour, DBs Mel Mitchell and Eddie Jackson, WRs Troy Brown, Chad Jackson, and Kelley Washington, and RB Justise Hairston on training camp PUP.
Thomas is rehabbing a broken foot but should be ready for the season. Both Jacksons are likely to stay on PUP through the first six weeks. The rest of these players aren’t of major concern and can return to practice at any time.
  • FA Wide Receiver
Patriots placed WR Chad Jackson, WR Troy Brown, and CB Eddie Jackson on the reserve/PUP list.
Both players will miss the first six weeks of the season. If New England’s other wideouts stay healthy, they will have some difficult roster decisions. Noticeably absent from this list: TE David Thomas and DT Richard Seymour, who the team will need to decide on by this weekend.
  • WAS Defensive Back
  • CLE Special Teams #23
Patriots signed S Raymond Ventrone from their practice squad.
After more than two years in NFL Europe and the practice squad, Ventrone gets to make his career debut. There’s now a good chance now that Eddie Jackson won’t come off PUP at all.
  • WAS Defensive Back
Patriots released CB Eddie Jackson and S Rashad Baker.
Jackson started the season on the PUP list, but returned for three games of primarily special teams work. Baker had been active for eight games and also worked on special teams.
  • FA Wide Receiver
The Patriots are expected to activate Chad Jackson (knee) from the Physically Unable to Perform list to replace Marcellus Rivers on the roster.
Jackson’s upside will be as a fourth receiver if he comes off PUP. He’d have to pass Jabar Gaffney for that role. If the Pats decide to bring Troy Brown or Eddie Jackson off the list, S Raymond Ventrone could be waived.
  • FA Wide Receiver
Patriots activated WR Chad Jackson and CB Eddie Jackson from the Physically Unable to Perform list.
The two are coming back from knee surgery for torn ACLs. Chad, a second-round pick in 2006, is unlikely to see the field often barring an injury in front of him. Eddie will mostly be asked to assist in kick and punt coverage.
  • WAS Defensive Back
Redskins released CB Eddie Jackson and re-signed LB Rian Wallace.
Purely a camp move. Wallace probably won’t make the final roster.
  • WAS Defensive Back
Dolphins re-signed CB Eddie Jackson to a one-year contract.
He was an exclusive rights free agent. He’s a reserve with the Dolphins.
