Marshawn Lynch gained only 16 yards on five carries in the Bills’ 13-10 loss to the Falcons in Friday night’s exhibition game.
Projected third-string back Dwayne Wright ran for 13 yards on three carries. Backup Anthony Thomas had a two-yard carry and one catch for five yards.
  • SEA Running Back #24
Bills head coach Dick Jauron would rather use a running-back-by-committee approach than feature one runner this season.
Buffalo has enough talented bodies to make an RBBC work, but it’d still be an upset if Marshawn Lynch didn’t take the vast majority of the load. Jauron may be trying to limit the pressure on his star rookie. Owners need to keep an eye on whether Dwayne Wright passes Anthony Thomas to become the top backup.
  • BUF Running Back
Anthony Thomas ran with the first-team offense as the Bills opened their second day of Organized Team Activities on Tuesday.
Shaud Williams rotated in while Dwayne Wright and Marshawn Lynch rotated with the twos. It would be a huge upset if Thomas kept the starting job, but he’s the early favorite over Wright to be Lynch’s primary backup in 2007.
  • SEA Running Back #24
Marshawn Lynch is on track to be the Bills’ starting running back in Week 1, according to NFL Network’s Adam Schefter.
This isn’t a surprise, but there was some thought that the Bills might employ an approach similar to the one the Colts took last year and use veteran Anthony Thomas as their starter. Instead, Lynch will be a very strong bet for 300 touches and to be the lead back in Dick Jauron’s “committee.” The rookie from Cal is a decent late RB2 pick in all leagues.
  • PIT Running Back
Bills signed fourth-round RB Dwayne Wright to a four-year contract.
Wright has impressed this summer, and will be an immediate candidate for carries behind Marshawn Lynch. The Fresno State product has a downhill style that should be conducive to short-yardage situations. If he wins the backup job over Anthony Thomas, he’s worth a look in deep leagues.
  • PIT Running Back
Bills RB Dwayne Wright saw few reps at the first day of training camp, while Anthony Thomas ran exclusively with the first-team offense.
Wright v. Thomas remains a key camp battle to watch, but it’s clear A-Train is the leader for now and an OK handcuff for Marshawn Lynch in deep leagues.
  • SEA Running Back #24
Marshawn Lynch gained just nine yards on six carries in the Bills’ exhibition season finale Thursday night. He added a 14-yard catch.
Third-stringer Dwayne Wright (12-51) was the big producer. Lynch finished the preseason with under three yards-per-carry, but remains the favorite for touches in Buffalo’s backfield. He may not get a full load in Week 1.
  • PIT Running Back
Bills RB Dwayne Wright rushed for 21 yards on nine carries and caught one pass for nine yards in the Bills’ exhibition loss Friday night.
Wright executed in short-yardage situations, but didn’t play until the second-team offense was in. He’s not a major threat for goal-line carries yet.
  • PIT Running Back
Bills offensive coordinator Steve Fairchild calls fourth-round pick Dwayne Wright a “good tough-nosed, downhill runner.”
“He looks a little more elusive and is able to function in the passing game better than I thought he might,” Fairchild said. “We’ll just see.” Wright could vulture goal-line carries from projected Bills starter Marshawn Lynch.
  • PIT Running Back
Dwayne Wright rushed 12 times for 25 yards and caught one pass for eight yards in Week 8 against the Jets.
Wright was pushed into duty as Marshawn Lynch’s backup because of Anthony Thomas’ eye injury and then saw more action than expected when Lynch briefly left the game with a hip injury of his own. The fourth-round pick didn’t show a whole lot and isn’t a fantasy factor.
