Rookie Martrez Milner will once again back up Alge Crumpler.

The blocking backup will return to the lineup this Sunday.

“It’s a concern,” coach Bobby Petrino said. “I’m not sure he’ll be ready for the game.” If Blakley is out, rookie Martez Miller will take over as Alge Crumpler’s backup.

It’s not like Crumpler has been doing much lately, but there was some hope he’d find more success with Byron Leftwich behind center than he did with Joey Harrington at the helm. Crumpler was unable to practice at all during the week, so his status going forward is also uncertain. Rookie Martrez Milner and Dwayne Blakley will likely share tight end duties at New Orleans.

Rookie Martrez Milner, a local who played college ball at Georgia, sees his first big-league action. Leftwich will need at least a few weeks to overtake Joey Harrington as the Falcons’ starting quarterback.

Crumpler is now looking doubtful to play against San Francisco, which is a bad sign considering he’s coming off a bye. Dwayne Blakley is his backup.

Alge Crumpler’s blocking backup should return in time for the regular season.

Blakley was let go to make room for the newly signed quarterback Chris Simms.
