The Broncos have installed third-round pick J.D. Walton as their starting center during OTAs.
He didn’t have trouble overtaking Dustin Fry. Russ Hochstein might be with the ones if he wasn’t coming off a torn ACL, but Walton is the favorite to start as it stands. His nasty mentality fits Denver’s new power-blocking scheme.
  • Rams C Andy McCollum (knee surgery) says he feels “100 percent” healthy.
McCollum is likely in danger of being cut if he doesn’t win the starting job from Brett Romberg. St. Louis’ decision to draft Dustin Fry wasn’t good news.
  • DEN Center
Rams signed fifth-round C Dustin Fry to a three-year contract.
So far, all St. Louis’ picks have inked three-year deals. A strong mauler from Clemson, Fry could push Andy McCollum, 37, off the team with a good camp.
  • DEN Center
    Rams released C Dustin Fry.
Fry wasn’t able to push Andy McCollum off the team’s roster. He could end up on the practice squad.
  • DEN Center
Rams signed OL Dustin Fry from their practice squad.
Fry, a fifth-round pick out of Clemson, was released on the team’s final cutdown and has been with the practice squad since. The team is impressed by his improvement in practice during the season and feels the best fit may be at guard. For now, he will add depth to a beat-up line.
  • LAR Wide Receiver
Rams waived WR Derek Stanley, C Dustin Fry, CB Darius Vinnett, T Mark LeVoir, RB Lance Ball, LB Marc Magro, CB David Macklin, and FB Russ Weil.
Stanley can fly, but is probably too small to have a future in the league. Macklin’s time may be just about up. Ball is a practice squad option.
  • FA Guard #66
Broncos C Russ Hochstein (torn ACL) is expected to be ready for training camp.
Hochstein is the top option at center right now, with only project Dustin Fry as competition. The Broncos are a near lock to address the position in the draft or the final wave of free agency, so it would be an upset if Hochstein began the year as the starter.
  • Broncos signed OG Matt McChesney and C Dustin Fry to reserve/futures contracts.
Local hero McChesney is a converted defensive tackle who spent time on the practice squad this season. Fry is good athlete with impressive strength, but that hasn’t translated at the NFL level.
  • DEN Center
Rams selected Clemson C Dustin Fry with the No. 139 overall pick in the NFL Draft.
Fry (6-3/315) showed great strength at the Combine with 34 reps of 225. He’s above average athletically and feisty on the field. Fry could give incumbent Brett Romberg a run for his money at the pivot spot right away.
  • DEN Center
    Broncos waived C Dustin Fry.
Fry was a fifth-round pick by the Rams back in 2007. He’s yet to make an impact at the NFL level.
