ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reports the Packers are hiring former Chargers defensive coordinator Derrick Ansley to be their pass game coordinator.
Starting with the Chargers in 2021, Ansley spent two seasons as the defensive backs coach before being promoted to defensive coordinator in 2023. He called the Chargers defense after Brandon Staley’s departure and now joins the Packers as pass game coordinator. The Packers fill another major position on the staff after also adding defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley this offseason.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Giants have requested an interview with Chargers DC Derrick Ansley for the same role.
Ansley was tasked with calling the Chargers’ defensive plays for the final three weeks of the season after the dismissal of head coach Brandon Staley. During that stretch, Ansley’s defense allowed 17.7 points per game — well below their season average of 23.4 and ranked 16th in EPA per play. He was promoted from defensive backs coach to defensive coordinator by the Chargers last offseason and was reportedly a “highly sought after” coach during last year’s coaching cycle. His move to the Giants would be a lateral one, but there’s no guarantee the Chargers’ new head coach keeps Ansley on staff once hired.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports the Chargers have promoted defensive backs coach Derrick Ansley to defensive coordinator.
Ansley has spent significant time in both college football and the NFL, coaching primarily in the SEC. He last served as a defensive coordinator with the Tennessee Volunteers (2019-2020) and has been the Chargers’ defensive backs coach for the last two seasons. Pelissero reports Ansley was “highly sought after” during this hiring cycle, and that head coach Brandon Staley was hoping to promote him and keep him on staff.
