Kenton Keith and DeDe Dorsey are considered the early favorites to replace Dominic Rhodes as Joseph Addai’s backfield mate.
The Colts will continue to use a two-back committee this season. Keith, a relative of former 49ers great Roger Craig, was a star in the CFL before catching on with Indianapolis. We still think it’s very possible the Colts sign a veteran like Chris Brown or even Stephen Davis to upgrade the competition.
  • DET Running Back
DeDe Dorsey has yet to claim the clear-cut No. 2 RB job in Indianapolis.
Undrafted rookie Clifton Dawson has impressed in camp and Kenton Keith has more experience, albeit in the CFL. Dorsey only gained 15 yards on six carries in the preseason opener. It’s beginning to look like Joseph Addai will be the lone workhorse in the Colts’ backfield this season.
  • IND Running Back
Colts RB Kenton Keith underwent an MRI on his ankle Friday afternoon.
The results are unknown. Keith, who is competing for the backup job, has been bothered by the ankle while participating at camp.
  • DET Running Back
The Jets have reportedly shown interest in free agent DeDe Dorsey.
Dorsey is recovering from turf toe, so his ability to pass a physical is questionable. The Bengals and Texans showed interest in him last week.
  • DET Running Back
The Bengals and Texans have reportedly shown interest in free agent running back DeDe Dorsey.
News has also broken that Dorsey hurt his toe in the preseason finale, which helps explain why the Colts ditched him. The Colts actually wanted to stash him on I.R. briefly before taking a settlement and trying to play this year. He spent time with Cincinnati during camp in 2006.
  • DET Running Back
The Colts are confident DeDe Dorsey can emerge as the second cog in their two-back rotation with Joseph Addai.
“We sure think he can,” coach Tony Dungy said. “We never got to see him run live in a game, but what he did in practice really gives you every indication he can be.” GM Bill Polian also had glowing remarks to say about Dorsey.
  • DET Running Back
DeDe Dorsey and Kenton Keith are the favorites to be Joseph Addai’s backup in Indinapolis.
Dorsey is a second-year player who worked on special teams last year. We hear the Colts are high on him. Keith is a CFL veteran. The Colts say they still want to use a two-back system, although it’s unlikely to be as evenly distributed as last year. Whoever wins the backup job is worth drafting in all leagues.
  • IND Running Back
Kenton Keith, who is battling for the No. 2 running back job in Indianapolis, ran for 16 yards on two carries Monday night. He caught a four-yard pass.
It was Keith’s first preseason appearance. DeDe Dorsey impressed with four catches for 42 yards, but only managed eight yards on his five carries. There’s been little obvious separation in this battle so far, but Dorsey probably has the upper hand because he knows the offense the best.
  • DET Running Back
Colts RB DeDe Drosey rushed five times for just four yards on Saturday night.
Kenton Keith rushed three times for 12 yards and had a one yard catch. The Colts had both backs running with the first team offense, but neither took a hold of the top backup spot.
  • FA Running Back #29
The Colts have been “toying” with the idea of using Joseph Addai more in the passing game, according to the Terre Haute News.
What other Colts back would get receiving opportunities? Addai is a fine pass-catcher and should be top five at his position in points-per-reception leagues. The Colts maintain DeDe Dorsey or Kenton Keith will be involved.
