The Athletic’s Max Olson reports that Texas Tech redshirt sophomore C Dawson Deaton is the favorite to start at center to begin the season.
The Red Raiders have one of the most experienced offensive lines in The Big 12, but they do have a void at the center position. Deaton was able to play in all 12 games last year for the Red Raiders, and made two starts. "...Deaton appears to be the favorite for the vacant center spot, but [Texas Tech OC David] Yost says there’s still a competition for that job exiting spring with Will Farrar, Bailey Smith and Clayton Franks all in the mix.” The center position is an important one in the new system -- it’s an important position in every system -- and right now, Deaton is the man to beat.
