Free-agent rookie TE Daniel Coats, who made the Bengals after and impressive preseason, is expected to receive some game action while backing up Reggie Kelly on Monday night.
The Bengals don’t usually feature the tight end much in their passing game, but they want to try to change that this season. Coats would be someone to watch in deep leagues if Kelly were to suffer an injury.
  • FA Tight End
Bengals TE Reggie Kelly (knee) and DT John Thornton (neck stinger) are expected to return to the lineup in Week 11.
Rookie Daniel Coats started in place of Kelly in Week 10 against the Ravens and caught a six-yard pass. Thornton is a captain on Cincinnati’s defense.
  • FA Tight End
Bengals TE Reggie Kelly (knee) is not expected to play in Week 10.
He will be replaced by promising undrafted rookie Daniel Coats out of Brigham Young. Kelly’s loss will be felt in the power running game most.
  • NYG Tight End
Bengals TE Daniel Coats will be sidelined for at least a week with an ankle injury.
Cincy tight ends are dropping like flies. Coats was the only blocking tight end left, so the Bengals may come calling on Bubba Franks.
  • NYG Tight End
The Bengals have named Daniel Coats their starting tight end.
Coats, who moonlighted as a fullback last season, is still hobbled by an early-camp ankle injury. He landed the job due to attrition and his own blocking ability. The Bengals tight end spot is a fantasy wasteland this season.
  • CIN Running Back
Bengals FB Jeremi Johnson had arthroscopic knee surgery Wednesday morning. He will be placed on injured reserve, ending his season.
Johnson recently earned his starting job back from Daniel Coats, who now moves back to the first-team offense. It’s not a big concern for Chris Perry.
  • CIN Tight End
John Paul Foschi has moved ahead of Daniel Coats as the No. 1 tight end on the Bengals’ depth chart.
Coats’ drops and fumbles have caught up with him. Foschi isn’t much of a receiver and will have about as much fantasy value as Coats did. Rookie Chase Coffman is still not blocking well enough or contributing on special teams to be active on Sundays.
  • NYG Tight End
Bengals second-year TE Daniel Coats is being tried at fullback.
He’s a direct threat to Jeremi Johnson, who reported to OTAs overweight. Coats looks the part at 6'3/255, has excellent hands, and Tarzan strength. Johnson got an extension in 2006, but his play has since been lackluster.
  • NYG Tight End
    Bengals re-signed TE Dan Coats.
Coats, a blocker, was forced into duty last season when the Bengals’ tight ends were decimated by injury. He ended up with 16 catches for 150 yards on the year. Coats would be Cincinnati’s starter if the season began today.
  • NYG Tight End
The Bengals opted not to extend a tender offer to restricted free agent TE Daniel Coats.
J.P. Foschi was also non-tendered, signaling the Bengals’ intention to overhaul the position in free agency and the draft. Coats will likely resurface elsewhere to battle for a roster spot this summer.
