Seahawks rookie WR Courtney Taylor will be out roughly four weeks after suffering a knee injury at practice this week.
This may crush his chances of making the club. We liked Taylor’s potential as a smart possession receiver in Mike Holmgren’s West Coast attack, but he looks to be practice squad bound at best at a deep position in Seattle.
  • FA Wide Receiver #13
Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren says he doesn’t know who his starting split end will be this week.
He’ll choose from Nate Burleson, rookie Courtney Taylor, and D.J. Hackett. If Burleson is removed from the starting lineup, he can be removed from 12-team league fantasy rosters. Holmgren indicated he especially wants to give Taylor a look, and it’s uncertain whether Hackett (ankle) is fully healthy yet.
  • WAS Wide Receiver
D.J. Hackett (ankle) only took part in individual drills Wednesday.
Hackett has an outside chance to start against St. Louis, but not if he can’t put in a full workout later this week. He’s basically competing to start in practice with rookie Courtney Taylor and incumbent Nate Burleson.
  • SEA Wide Receiver
Seahawks rookie WR Courtney Taylor (knee sprain) returned to individual drills on Wednesday.
He didn’t take part in contact. After missing so much of camp, Taylor is a long shot to make Seattle’s final roster. He’s likely a practice squad candidate.
  • SEA Wide Receiver
Seahawks declared WR Courtney Taylor, TE Bennie Joppru, QB Charlie Frye, WR D.J. Hackett, DE Jason Babin, OL Mansfield Wrotto, OL Tom Ashworth, and DT Ellis Wyms inactive for Week 4.
Taylor goes down because Ben Obomanu is healthy again and active. It’s a disappointment that Babin has been unable to crack the game-day roster yet.
  • SEA Wide Receiver
Seahawks signed sixth-round WR Courtney Taylor to a multi-year contract.
Taylor, an Auburn alum, is a good fit for Seattle’s West Coast offense. His long speed isn’t great but he’ll make acrobatic catches and move the chains. If it comes down to Jordan Kent and Taylor, expect Taylor to make the team.
  • WAS Wide Receiver
If Deion Branch (calf) does not play in Week 17, D.J. Hackett will be the Seahawks’ starting split end.
Branch is unlikely to play Sunday. Bobby Engram would start at flanker, but figures to be replaced quickly by a combo of Ben Obomanu and Courtney Taylor. Hackett could play the most of all ‘Hawks WRs. He’s healthy after a month layoff and the team likely wants to get him a good number of snaps.
  • FA Wide Receiver #86
Deion Branch (calf) did not take part in Seahawks practice Thursday.
We wouldn’t bet on Branch playing in Week 17 with any sort of an injury, and now that he’s followed up Wednesday’s limited workout with this, it’s pretty clear he won’t be used much against Atlanta. The Seahawks will probably go mostly with D.J. Hackett, Ben Obomanu, and Courtney Taylor in the game.
  • SEA Wide Receiver
Seahawks rookie WR Courtney Taylor worked with the first-team offense on Wednesday.
Usual second-team FB David Kirtman and OL Ray Willis also ran with the first unit. The Seahawks appear to be getting their young backups ready to play in Week 17, although it won’t be clear how much until game day. Despite coach Mike Holmgren saying he’ll use his starters a lot against Atlanta, there’s reason to believe that won’t happen if Seattle jumps out to a lead.
  • SEA Wide Receiver
Seahawks WR Courtney Taylor is line for an expanded role if D.J. Hackett departs via free agency.
The team also likes the potential of Logan Payne, but Taylor would be given priority at Hackett’s split end spot. Ben Obomanu is higher on the depth chart, so it remains to be seen who will take advantage if opportunity presents itself this off-season.
