ESPN’s Anthony Treash ranks Florida State redshirt junior DT Cory Durden fifth among interior defensive lineman for the 2020 college football season.
One of the players that ranks ahead of Durden (6'5/312) is Marvin Wilson, who just so happens to be his teammate. The powerful defensive tackle picked up five sacks in 2019, but the analytics suggest he was better than that number; not that five sacks is anything to scoff at. “Durden dazzled as a pass-rusher -- his 81.7 pass-rush grade in 2019 was 15th among interior defensive linemen, and his 17.1% win rate ranked fourth among the 181 interior defenders who played at least 250 pass-rush snaps,” Treash writes. He also notes that Durden has had some issues with wrapping up tackles (19 on 75 attempts), but his ability to get in the backfield along with Wilson gives the Seminoles a “scary” duo on the interior.
