Commanders selected Tulsa OL Chris Paul with the No. 230 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Paul (6’4/328) was a four-year starter who began his career at right guard before spending his last two campaigns at right tackle. He recovered from the knee injury that cost him the final three games of 2021 in time to post a 94th-percentile size-adjusted athletic composite during pre-draft testing. Though he spent the past two years at right tackle, we think he’s likely headed back to guard at the next level, as his narrow-based approach could leave him susceptible in pass-pro at the next level on the outside. Paul’s strong lower half and prodigious length will play inside in the NFL, as will his prerogative to keep his legs churning until the whistle. He’ll need technical work before he can become a standout pass-blocker, but the athletic package suggests he can get there. He reminds us a little of Larry Borom, Chicago’s fifth-round pick last year who also kicked inside after playing tackle in college.
