Browns RB Chris Barclay has gained ground on projected third-string back Jerome Harrison.
The Browns will consider keeping four backs because Barclay is a proficient kick returner. Harrison has a chance for a set role as a third-down specialist, but Barclay’s raw speed is valued in a sluggish Cleveland backfield.

    Browns released RB Chris Barclay.
The Browns were considering keeping Barclay, the speedy kick returner, as a fourth back.

Browns signed RB Chris Barclay, OL Cliff Louis, DLs Chase Pittman and Melila Purcell, CB Tim Mixon, TE Jonny Harline, and WRs Steve Sanders and Syndric Steptoe to the practice squad.
Mixon and Harline were in camp with the Bears and Colts, respectively. Barclay will be an option during the season if Cleveland needs a returner.

Chris Barclay currently leads NFL Europa in total yards gained.
He’s second to Derrick Ross (Chiefs) in rushing yards, although both are averaging under four yards-per-carry. Barclay has been an electrifying return man in Europe and has a chance to make Cleveland’s roster out of training camp. Ross could struggle to do so with Kolby Smith in town.

    Titans waived RB Chris Barclay.
Barclay, who was signed off Cleveland’s practice squad prior to Week 12, didn’t do much on returns after his first game with Tennessee. The speedster still has practice squad eligibility and will likely land elsewhere shortly.

Saints signed RB Chris Barclay, formerly of the Titans.
Barclay, who began the season on Cleveland’s practice squad, is more of a kick return prospect than anything else. He’s likely to contribute on special teams if Pierre Thomas has to shoulder a full workload in Week 17.

  • NO Running Back
Saints coach Sean Payton said Friday that Aaron Stecker (foot) will be a game-time decision against the Bears on Sunday.
Don’t count on seeing him much. Stecker didn’t practice at all this week due to what Payton revealed Friday to be “severe turf toe.” “Certainly you’ll see a lot of Pierre Thomas and we’ll go from there,” Payton confirmed. Even if Stecker is active, he will be limited in the game. Thomas should start with newly acquired Chris Barclay and Stecker possibly spelling him occasionally.

Titans signed RB Chris Barclay off the Browns’ practice squad.
Barclay will take over as the No. 3 running back while Chris Henry serves his four game substance abuse suspension. He could also see work returning punts.

Saints released RB Chris Barclay with an injury settlement.
Barclay only had a knee sprain, but the Saints didn’t deem him worth waiting on. He was trying to make the club as a returner and backup tailback.
