Lions selected Arizona State CB Chase Lucas with the No. 237 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Named a team captain, a Pac-12 All-Conference honoree, and a Frank Kush captains award winner, Lucas (5'11"/180) had an incredible graduate senior season for the Sun Devils. He showed high-end athleticism in his testing, including a 39” vertical leap and 10’8” broad jump, and it shows out on the field. Lucas’ footwork, specifically the backpedal, gives him the ability to trace a receiver in his route, and quick bursts will allow him to chase the deep ball even in zone coverage. Unfortunately, his small frame makes it tough to cover bigger and more physical receivers. He commits his hip movement too quickly, allowing good route runners to create separation, and he doesn’t create the good angles to make tackles. His current size will be limiting, but gaining strength will open up more possibilities.
