  • Quarterback #4
Chargers re-signed QB Chase Daniel to a one-year, $2.25 million contract.
Now 35, Daniel didn’t attempt a single pass last season, his first in L.A. as Justun Herbert’s backup. No. 2 quarterback work is solid work if you can get it.

  • LAC Quarterback #2
Easton Stick completed 10-of-14 passes for 85 yards and one touchdown in the Chargers’ second preseason game against the 49ers.
Stick was under constant pressure, taking three sacks throughout the night, but still managed to make a handful of highlight plays. His biggest throw came on a broken play where he was forced to break the pocket. Just before stepping out of bounds, he connected with Josh Palmer for a three-yard score. Stick added 15 yards on the ground. Veteran backup Chase Daniel struggled in the second half, opening the door for Stick to usurp him ahead of the final wave of roster cuts. The Chargers’ third preseason game versus Seattle could decide the fates of Daniel and Stick.

  • Quarterback #4
Chargers signed QB Chase Daniel, formerly of the Lions, to a one-year contract.
We are all jealous of Daniel’s career. He’s now made $40 million while only attempting 261 passes throughout his career. In Los Angeles, Daniel will be the Chargers’ clipboard quarterback and serve as a mentor to Justin Herbert. His signing figuratively ends the Easton Stick experiment.

  • Quarterback #4
    Lions released QB Chase Daniel.
The Lions reportedly tried to trade the veteran backup but unsurprisingly found no takers. The move saves the Lions $2.3 million in cap space, leaving behind $3 million in dead money. Daniel has started five games in his 11-year career and should resurface as an experienced “coach” and clipboard-holder.

  • Quarterback #4
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Lions “have had trade discussions with other teams regarding their backup QB Chase Daniel.”
Daniel has been in the NFL for a decade and has earned a total of five starts. He has thrown eight touchdowns and seven interceptions on his 261 career pass attempts. Despite his lack of starting talent, Schefter added that “Daniel has been considered an ideal mentor for young QBs.” It’s hard to remember a time that a team traded for a quarterback because of their teaching abilities but it likely won’t require much to purchase Detroit’s backup passer. Daniel learned how to mentor young quarterbacks while serving as Drew Brees’ backup for four years across two stints with New Orleans, according to Schefter. He most recently started for the Bears in 2019, throwing two scores and two interceptions in a losing effort to Oakland.

  • LAR Quarterback #9
The Lions aren’t “overly optimistic” about Matthew Stafford’s (ribs) chances to play this week against Tennessee.
Prepare for more tortured language describing Stafford’s condition and status as the week rolls on. Stafford reportedly has a rib cartilage injury but the team is “leaving open possibility” he’ll start in Week 15 “since Stafford often toughs out injuries,” according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. Chase Daniel came off the bench for Stafford in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss to Green Bay but hasn’t started a game since October 2019. Daniel would be a last-ditch superflex option against a bad Titans secondary.

  • LAR Quarterback #9
Lions placed QB Matthew Stafford on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
It’s unclear if Stafford has tested positive or he was in close contact with an infected person. Lions beat writers assumed something was up when Stafford wasn’t on the practice field Wednesday and was removed from the media schedule. In his absence, Chase Daniel and David Blough split reps. Daniel is likely to get the start this week against the Vikings if Stafford can’t go.

  • WAS Offensive Team
    Lions waived QB David Blough.
Blough got five starts in 2019 after Matthew Stafford and Jeff Driskel went down with injuries. He lost all five games while completing 54 percent of his passes and averaging 5.7 yards per attempt. The Lions offense never topped 20 points with Blough under center. Chase Daniel will serve as the backup to Stafford this year.

  • Quarterback #4
Lions signed QB Chase Daniel, formerly of the Bears, to a three-year, $13.05 million contract.
Daniel remains a legend, having made $34.3 million to date despite throwing just seven touchdown passes across 65 mop-up appearances throughout his 10-year career. He’ll turn 34 in October.
  • Quarterback #4
CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora reports the Browns are expected to pursue impending free agent QB Chase Daniel.
Daniel has earned at least $10 million from three different teams since 2013. He has seven career passing touchdowns in five career starts. Legend.
