The Jets may look into the backup running back market during the preseason.
It could be a sign Curtis Martin may not be ready for the opener. Cedric Houston, Leon Washington, and Derrick Blaylock are competing for carries in camp right now and will get a chance to prove themselves in the exhibition season.
  • NYJ Running Back
Cedric Houston didn’t play until the second half Saturday, then rushed 14 times for 53 yards.
He also fumbled on the goal line, but recovered the ball. With trade winds swirling, Houston appears to be losing his chance to get carries early this season and should be sliding down draft boards.

The acquisition of Kevan Barlow doesn’t bode well for Cedric Houston.
His roster spot, much less his fantasy value, looks suspect. Houston is probably battling Derrick Blaylock for a job, but we wouldn’t draft either player now.
  • NYJ Running Back
Jets declared RB Cedric Houston, QB Kellen Clemens, WR/KR Tim Dwight, LB Anthony Schlegel, C Trey Teague, DT C.J. Mosley, TE Zachary Hilton, and LB Trevor Johnson inactive for Week 1.
Clemens is officially third on the depth chart. Houston was a surprise after being listed second behind Derrick Blaylock. Schlegel, a third-round pick, will need to learn how to cover to stick in the league.
  • NYJ Running Back
RB Cedric Houston, LB Ryan Myers, T/G Steve Morley, TE/LS Joel Dreessen, WR Dante Ridgeway, QB Brooks Bollinger are inactive for week one.
Bollinger is the No. 3 QB. Jay Fielder (hand) will be Pennington’s backup.
  • NYJ Running Back
Cedric Houston will serve as the Jets’ No. 2 running back now.
Former backup Derrick Blaylock broke his foot and will be sidelined the remainder of the season. Houston has yet to carry the ball in his NFL career.

According to New York Newsday, RB Cedric Houston will be the Jets’ new goal-line back.
“We’ll get some people involved,” coach Herm Edwards said. Thanks for the clarification, Herm.
  • NYJ Running Back
Cedric Houston rushed ten times for 53 yards in week ten.
He played a lot in garbage time with the game decided.
  • NYJ Running Back
Jets signed sixth-round pick, RB Cedric Houston to a four-year contract.
The former Tennessee star unnecessarily dropped in the draft because of a thyroid condition. He has the problem under control with medication now, and is a nice deep sleeper in dynasty leagues. He could be New York’s short-yardage back.
  • NYJ Running Back
Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum announced Thursday that Cedric Houston has left the team for personal reasons.
The Jets didn’t say when he’ll be back. Houston is expected to be the team’s third-string tailback behind Thomas Jones and Leon Washington. If he’s gone for long, the Gang Green will look to the waiver wire for help.
