Cheifs center Casey Wiegman is expected to sign a contract extension today.
NFL Network’s Adam Sheftfer reported the deal was already done, for three years and $9 million. He’s the anchor of Kansas City’s excellent offensive line.
  • Chiefs signed center Casey Wiegman to a three-year contract worth $2.7 million a year.
The Chiefs now have their entire offensive line under contract through 2005.
  • Free agent C Casey Wiegmann is “likely” to retire, according to KCChiefs.com.
Wiegmann, working on a streak of 11,102 consecutive snaps, turns 39 years old in July. Last year’s second-rounder, Rodney Hudson, spent the season in the locker next door, picking up tips from Wiegmann. Expected to man the pivot in 2012, the athletic Hudson should be an upgrade in the running game.
  • Chiefs C Casey Wiegmann is undecided about playing a 17th NFL season in 2012.
Set to reach free agency again, Wiegmann will turn 39 before the start of the 2012 season. He’s made 175 straight starts while playing 11,102 consecutive snaps. The Chiefs have 2011 second-rounder Rodney Hudson waiting in the wings.
  • Free agent C Casey Wiegmann has “unofficially retired.”
Wiegmann hasn’t submitted his papers yet, but he’s moving on. He’ll be 39 next month and the Chiefs have implanted second-year man Rodney Hudson at center. Wiegmann’s career ends with an impressive streak of 175 consecutive starts.
  • Free agent C Casey Wiegmann visited the Chiefs this week.
We suspected the Chiefs would take a look at the veteran. Wiegmman, 39, unofficially retired back in June, largely because the Chiefs were ready to move forward with Rodney Hudson. Now that Hudson is out for the season, it makes sense to revisit Wiegmann. For now, Ryan Lilja is manning center with Jeff Allen taking over at left guard.
  • The Chiefs are not expected to re-sign free agent C Casey Wiegmann.
The smallish 34-year-old center hopes to last another few years, but Kansas City is in search of a replacement. Rudy Niswanger is an in-house option. The Chiefs could also move G Brian Waters inside to the pivot spot.
  • KC Wide Receiver
WR Eddie Kennison, C Casey Wiegmann and G John Welbourn and are among a group of veterans not expected to be back with the Chiefs next season.
The once potent Chiefs offense was built on the strength of its offensive line, but the likely cuts means only G Brian Waters will remain from that core group. Despite a lackluster season, Kennison should latch on somewhere as a veteran third receiver.
  • Casey Wiegmann is threatening to “re-evaluate his future” if the Broncos don’t extend his contract before training camp.
Wiegmann was threatening to retire months ago when the Broncos agreed to start negotiations on a new contract. No progress has been made since then. “They have another month and a half to get something done,” said Wiegmann.
  • The Broncos reworked the contract of C Casey Wiegmann, extending the deal through 2010.
Financial details were not released. The onetime Pro Bowler made vague threats of retirement this spring and was scheduled to collect the veteran’s minimum of $845,000 in his final contract year. Wiegmann received added security while the Broncos keep their offensive line intact. It’s nice for the Broncos now, but extending a 36-year-old for any additional seasons is always risky.
