Saints signed Wyoming DE Carl Granderson.
Granderson (6’5/254) was a four-year contributor and three-year starter on the Cowboys’ defensive front, amassing 35.5 career TFLs, 17.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles. As Granderson’s sack production dipped from 9.5 as a junior to 3.0 as a senior, he fell from first- to second-team All-Mountain West before underwhelming with 38th-percentile SPARQ results in Indy. Granderson does offer straight-line speed (4.79) rushing ability and plus length (34-inch arms) but consistently got washed out in run defense at Wyoming and lacks a variety of pass-rush moves. His probable ceiling is a special teams player with sub-package value on defense.

Wyoming DE Carl Granderson has his arraignment date set for April 19th.
Granderson was charged with third-degree sexual assault, so the league will be watching this case very closely. The arraignment comes just one week before the NFL Draft, so it will have a major impact on his draft stock depending on what we learn from the legal process. Before this report surfaced, Granderson was on track to be a Day 3 selection.

NFL Media’s Lance Zierlein compared Wyoming DE Carl Granderson to Minnesota Vikings DE Tashawn Bower.
Granderson (6'5/254) is described as a “Long-limbed developmental prospect who will likely be drafted based upon traits over production,” according to Zierlein. Granderson was charged with third-degree sexual assault and battery in February but nothing came of it and he was still allowed to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine. He produced just a 37th percentile SPARQ athletic composite score with a 4.79 40-yard dash. After a strong showing at the Senior Bowl and lackluster combine numbers, Granderson will likely be a Day 3 selection.

Wyoming DE Carl Granderson has been charged with third-degree sexual assault and sexual battery.
Granderson (6'4/246) is being charged in relation to an alleged incident which occurred after the end of the 2018 season. The Wyoming defensive end -- a first-team All-Mountain West performer in 2017 -- is currently in the midst of his draft process, having attended the Reese’s Senior Bowl in January. NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah wrote after the week in Mobile that Granderson was a player who had improved his stock. Prior to these charges crossing the wire, he had been viewed as a Day 3 prospect. Granderson has received an invitation to the NFL Scouting Combine, but we’ll have to see if the league ends up yanking that invite. They’ve been withholding invites to those with past violence charges since 2016.

NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah believes Wyoming DE Carl Granderson has improved his stock at the Reese’s Senior Bowl.
Granderson made 35.5 tackles for loss for Wyoming in his career with the Cowboys, so it’s not like he was an unknown name coming into Mobile. That being said, reports from Jeremiah -- and some other fine analysts -- have suggested he was an underrated prospect. Jeremiah notes that Granderson at times looked stiff on tape with the Cowboys, but he hasn’t over the first two days of practice. He also notes he thought Granderson was a Day 3 prospect (4th-to-fifth round in his eyes), but that has improved after his viewings.
  • NO Defensive End #96
Wyoming DE Carl Granderson measured in at 6-foot-4, 246-pounds at the Reese’s Senior Bowl on Tuesday.
Those are solid measurements, but the real win here is that Granderson measured with nearly 35" arms. It’s clear that Granderson has the length to impress, and it also was clear that he knows how to use that length on Tuesday, with Rob Rang listing him as one of the most impressive players on the field. Granderson is still a Day 3 prospect, but he’s certainly a player that we need to keep an eye on this week.
  • NO Defensive End #96
Wyoming senior DE Carl Granderson accepted an invitation to play in the Reese’s Senior Bowl.
Granderson (6'5/261) had 7.5 tackles for loss in 2018 -- three of them sacks -- but was much better as a junior when he logged 16 tackles for loss and was named an All-Mountain West first-team selection. He’ll have a chance in Mobile to show that the junior stats are more indicative of the talent than his senior season.
  • NO Defensive End #96
Wyoming senior DE Carl Granderson has made a concerted effort to add weight this offseason.
Granderson was listed at 6-foot-5, 255 pounds last season. He’s up to 261 pounds, now, as he readies for his final season of collegiate ball. In 2017, he was named an All-Mountain West first-team performer after logging a career-best 78 tackles (16.0 for loss), 8.5 sacks, two interceptions and two fumbles forced on the year. He’ll be a prospect to keep an eye for draft purposes once the season gets underway.
