  • WAS Running Back
    Colts waived fullback Carey Davis.
  • WAS Running Back
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Carey Davis will likely make the team.
The paper also thinks that Gary Russell is a lock, leaving Dan Kreider, Verron Haynes, Kevan Barlow and John Kuhn to compete for one or possibly two spots. Davis and Russell are worth monitoring in dynasty leagues.
  • WAS Running Back
Carey Davis ran for 68 yards on seven carries in Sunday’s exhibition opener. He also caught two passes for 32 yards.
Davis looked like Barry Foster when he caught a screen from Brian St. Pierre and bulled Jay Bellamy for a 33-yard gain to end the first quarter. He also broke off a 56-yard dash down the right sideline in the second frame. The one-time Buc has had a nice camp, but still faces an uphill climb to make the club. Davis does have practice squad eligibility remaining.
  • WAS Running Back
Carey Davis has supplanted Dan Kreider as Pittsburgh’s starting fullback.
Davis is more of a pass catcher and runner, so Kreider may be used when Pittsburgh needs an old fashioned lead blocker if he’s active on game days.
  • LV Running Back
Running backs Gary Russell and Carey Davis are making “strong bids” for a roster spot with the Steelers, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Russell might be more likely to land on the practice squad, but Davis has stepped up and could push Kevan Barlow and/or Verron Haynes off the club.
  • ATL Running Back
Verron Haynes is reportedly battling FB Dan Krieder for the fifth and final spot on Pittsburgh’s roster at running back.
The Steelers are expected to keep four tailbacks if Haynes doesn’t make it: Willie Parker, Najeh Davenport, Carey Davis, and Gary Russell. Kreider would seem to have a much better shot at sticking because he lead blocks.
  • PIT Running Back
Kevan Barlow is more likely to battle Verron Haynes for the third-string job in Pittsburgh, not Najeh Davenport for the primary backup gig.
John Kuhn and Gary Russell are also in the competition, along with Carey Davis, who has stepped up early on. Barlow’s chances to make the roster would be greatly increased if he had value on special teams.
  • ATL Running Back
    Steelers released RB Verron Haynes.
He may get a call during the season if the Steelers need help, but they are going at running back. Gary Russell, Carey Davis, and fullback Dan Kreider all made the roster.
  • WAS Running Back
Carey Davis and Verron Haynes will both compete to be the Steelers’ third-down back.
Coach Mike Tomlin said that Najeh Davenport should get between 20-25 carries per game going forward, meaning either man’s contribution would be minimal.
  • LV Running Back
Rookie Gary Russell will serve as Najeh Davenport’s backup for the rest of the season.
Davenport will give up his third-down role now that he’s a starter to Carey Davis and Verron Haynes. Russell still isn’t likely to see much playing time unless Davenport is hurt.
