Dolphins signed DE Calais Campbell, formerly of the Falcons.
Campbell has mulled retirement for the last several seasons but is now set to join the Dolphins on what is likely a one-year deal. The soon-to-be 38-year-old totaled 6.5 sacks and 10 TFLs in his lone season with the Falcons and is now ready to return to Miami, where he played in college ball from 2005-2007. Campbell should provide immediate help along the interior for a defense that lost defensive tackle Christian Wilkins to the Raiders via free agency and continues to play at a high enough level to be an impact player. Amongst defensive linemen who played at least 300 snaps last season, Calais ranked 39th with a defensive grade of 80.0.
  • FA Defensive End #93
Falcons HC Raheem Morris said the team is open to re-signing DE Calais Campbell.
Campbell has mulled retirement over the last few seasons, but was last heard saying he’s “leaning toward playing again.” the soon-to-be 38-year-old lineman totaled 32 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and 10 TFLs in his lone season with the Falcons last year, and could likely be had at a team-friendly price. Morris said he has spoken with Campbell about a return and hopes to re-visit the conversation “at a later date.”
  • ATL Defensive End #93
Falcons DE Calais Campbell said he’s “leaning toward playing again” in 2024.
Campbell signed a one-year contract with the Falcons last season and wound up playing in all 17 games for the first time since 2019. The veteran lineman would be 38 at the start of next season but was efficient in his first year with the Falcons. Continuing to defy Father Time, Campbell totaled 6.5 sacks in 2023 — his most since 2019, and also racked up 56 tackles and 10 TFLs. Campbell said he’ll take time to think things over during the offseason, but if he decides to return, he’d have plenty to offer to a contender.
  • ATL Defensive End #93
Falcons activated DE Calais Campbell from the PUP list.
Campbell has yet to suit up for training camp but should be on the field soon. He was a surprise addition to the PUP list to open camp but should get up to speed in the coming days. The soon-to-be 37-year-old lineman joined the Falcons on a one-year deal this offseason and figures to be a key addition along the defensive line.
  • ATL Defensive End #93
When asked about the status of DE Calais Campbell, Falcons HC Arthur Smith said, “give it at least 10 days.”
Campbell is the only Falcons on the NFI list as it stands right now. The veteran has reported to camp but has yet to take the field and could be absent for quite some time. The Falcons signed Campbell to a one-year, $7 million contract this offseason, hoping to squeeze whatever juice the 37-year-old vet has left in the tank before he rides off into the sunset. Campbell appeared in 14 games for the Ravens last season and finished the year with 5.5 sacks. The team didn’t seem too concerned about him when they placed him on the NFI list, which makes the possibility of him missing 10 days a bit puzzling.
  • MIA Defensive Tackle #93
Falcons signed DL Calais Campbell, formerly of the Ravens, to a one-year, $7 million contract.
Campbell becomes the latest addition to Atlanta’s defense, graded by Pro Football Focus as last year’s second worst pass rush unit and 12th worst run defense. Turning 37 in September, Campbell appeared in 14 games for the Ravens last season, totaling 5.5 sacks, his most since 2019. He’s now five years removed from his last double-digit sack season. It was believed Campbell, who also talked with the Jaguars and Lions, was angling to sign with a contender in what could be his last NFL season. He lands with the Falcons instead.

  • MIA Defensive Tackle #93
CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson reports the free agent DL Calais Campbell is scheduled to meet with the Lions.
The Lions will reportedly meet with Campbell on Thursday as the veteran defensive lineman continues to make his rounds. Campbell will turn 37 in September, but appeared in 14 games for the Ravens last season, totaling 5.5 sacks -- his most since 2019, while grading as the 15th-best defensive lineman in the league per PFF. Campbell likely wants to join a playoff contender in what could be his final season and could help the Lions win what appears to be a wide-open NFC North in 2023.

  • FA Center #60
Jets HC Robert Saleh said the team is interested in free agent C Ben Jones.
Jones was released by the Titans a little over a week ago. One of the toughest interior offensive linemen in the league, Jones missed time last season with concussions and a neck injury, but performed at a high level when active. The Jets have already added some interior players this offseason, but that didn’t stop Saleh from mentioning Jones at Monday’s owners meeting. He also suggested the team could pursue free-agent defensive lineman Calais Campbell, who was recently released by the Ravens.

  • MIA Defensive Tackle #93
Free agent DL Calais Campbell is expected to visit the Jets and Buffalo next week.
Campbell visited Jacksonville and Atlanta earlier this month but left without a deal. The six-time Pro Bowler was a cap casualty for the Ravens this offseason, who saved $7 million and cleared his $9 million cap hit with his release. Campbell’s 2022 drop-off still produced 5.5 sacks, 4 TFLs, and 2 forced fumbles in 14 games. Campbell could be a fit in Buffalo if they trade DL Ed Oliver or as the starter opposite Quinnen Williams if he signs with the Jets.

Free agent DL Calais Campbell is visiting the Jaguars on Thursday.
It’s the second reported visit for Campbell this week, as he’s reportedly also headed to Atlanta. Campbell appears to have a couple of suitors for his services and could land a starting role in one of these places. This would be a reunion with the Jaguars, as Campbell played there from 2017-2019 and had 31.5 sacks over that time span.
