ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the NFL has taken away a 2023 fifth-round pick from the Texans and fined them $175,000 for a salary-cap violation.
Houston believes it is an “accounting error” that dates back to Deshaun Watson’s training per Schefter. The Texans had Watson train at a local facility while theirs was shut down due to COVID-19. It’s hard to say that the Texans have really lost much here, but given how Nick Caserio operates drafts, that fifth-rounder was likely to become ammunition for a trade up at some point.

Bally Sports’ Mike Silver reports that Texans owner Cal McNair used an anti-Asian slur at a team event last May.
McNair used an anti-Asian slur to refer to coronavirus at a team event last May, which reportedly upset employees and caused gasps among those in attendance. In a statement that came out on Tuesday – five months after the incident – McNair expressed regret for his choice of words and apologized. It’s unclear what the league may do, especially in light of the recent events surrounding former Raiders coach Jon Gruden.
