    Raiders released QB Brian Hoyer.
While it’s too early to know for sure, it’s possible this is the end of the line for Hoyer, who turned 38 last year and has thrown just 150 passes since 2018. A former undrafted free agent who caught on with the Patriots in 2009, Hoyer has bounced around between nine different teams and has had three stints in New England alone. Hoyer has a 16-25 record as a starter and has thrown for 10,899-53-37 in his career. As a seasoned veteran, it’s possible a team brings him on to earn a spot in camp, but he’s offered very little as a backup in recent years.

Raiders declared QB Brian Hoyer, DE Isaac Rochell, DT Byron Young, LB Divine Deablo, OT Thayer Munford, FB Jakob Johnson, and LB Luke Masterson inactive for Week 9 against the Giants.
After cleaning house, the Raiders are still favored against a Giants’ team trying to find their way. Rookie Aidan O’Connell will get his second start for the new-look record
  • LV Quarterback #4
The Las Vegas Journal-Review’s Vincent Bosigno reports the Raiders are “leaning toward” starting QB Aidan O’Connell in Week 9 against the Giants.
The Raiders, fresh off firing head coach Josh McDaniels, could give the rookie a shot after Jimmy Garoppolo’s unsightly performance on Monday night against the Lions. McDaniels chose fellow ex-Patriot Brian Hoyer to start over O’Connell in Week 7 against the Bears — a humiliating loss to undrafted free agent QB Tyson Bagent. In O’Connell’s lone start in Week 4, he completed 24 of 39 passes for 238 yards and an interception. It’s hard to imagine O’Connell being worse than Garoppolo, but anything is possible with the Raiders in another lost season.

Raiders declared QB Brian Hoyer, LB Divine Deablo, K James McCourt, CB Tyler Hall, WR Kristian Wilkerson, DT Byron Young, and DT Nesta Jade Silvera inactive for Week 8 against the Lions.
Hoyer had served as the backup or starter for the first seven weeks of the season but will now give way to rookie Aidan O’Connell for backup duties. He will be on the sidelines as the team’s emergency quarterback. Deablo, the Raiders’ leading tackler, will also miss Week 8 with an ankle injury after failing to practice at any point this week.

Brian Hoyer completed 17-of-32 passes for 129 yards, zero touchdowns and two interceptions in the Raiders’ 30-12, Week 7 loss to the Bears.
Looking like he belonged nowhere close to an NFL football field, 38-year-old Hoyer lost his 13th straight start. That covers five separate teams. Hoyer’s second interception was a hilarious pick-six that went in the books as Chicago’s first since Week 2 of the 2021 season. Hoyer and his “offense” weren’t even competitive as they got annihilated by undrafted, Division II rookie “Tyson Bagent” in his first career start. Coach Josh McDaniels finally cried uncle when he benched Hoyer for the final 3:32. Aidan O’Connell immediately engineered Vegas’ only touchdown drive, making an already-terrible decision look that much worse. Jimmy Garoppolo (back) will supposedly be back for Week 8 against the Lions. Hoyer has potentially played his final NFL snap.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Jimmy Garoppolo (back) is expected to return in Week 8 against the Lions.
Garoppolo has already been ruled out for Week 7. Brian Hoyer will start against Chicago. The Raiders play on Monday next week, giving Garoppolo an extra day of rest before he attempts to return from his second one-game absence of the season. For now, expect a conservative approach from the Raiders on offense as they attempt to secure against the Tyson Bagent-led Bears.

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reports Brian Hoyer will start for the Raiders in Week 7 against the Bears.
Jimmy Garoppolo is out with a back injury this week. Rookie quarterback Aidan O’Connell previously got the start when Garoppolo missed time. O’Connell struggled in his lone start, throwing for 238 scoreless yards and an interception. Hoyer entered the lineup when Garoppolo went down mid-game in Week 6. He played well, completing 6-of-10 passes for 102 yards with no interceptions or sacks. He will be tasked with simply taking care of the ball and getting out of Chicago with a win versus UDFA rookie Tyson Bagent at quarterback. Though Hoyer is a downgrade for the offense, Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers remain starting fantasy options for Week 7.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Jimmy Garoppolo (back) will not play in Week 7 against the Bears.
What Schefter didn’t announce is who the team plans to start in Garoppolo’s place. Veteran Brian Hoyer stepped in for Garoppolo when he went down in Week 6 and went 6-of-10 passing for 102 yards with no turnovers. That starting job for Sunday will come down to Hoyer and rookie Aidan O’Connell, who started for the team in Week 4. While we don’t yet know who the Raiders will roll out on Sunday, we do know that both aren’t worth trusting for fantasy purposes.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Jimmy Garoppolo “could miss a game” with a back injury suffered in the Raiders’ Week 6 win over the Patriots.
We’re still early in the evaluation process of Garoppolo’s injury, but he’s believed to have avoided significant injury. He was transported to a local area hospital to check for internal injuries, but it sounds like the injury appeared worse than it was. Garoppolo was in noticeable pain when exiting the field, making his status one to watch heading into Week 7 against the Bears. Brian Hoyer replaced Garoppolo on Sunday, but it’s possible Aidan O’Connell could earn another start if Garoppolo is unable to go.
  • LV Quarterback #7
Brian Hoyer completed 6-of-10 passes for 102 yards in the Raiders’ 21-17, Week 6 win over the Patriots.
Hoyer took over to start the second half after Jimmy Garoppolo departed with a back injury just before halftime. He led two scoring drives in the second frame, each short field goals from kicker Daniel Carlson, but did enough to preserve the victory after the Raiders jumped out to a 13-3 lead entering the half. It is unclear if Garoppolo will miss any time and also unclear whether it would be Hoyer or fifth-round rookie Aidan O’Connell that would draw the start in his absence. The 15-year veteran would seemingly bring lower upside for fantasy purposes.
