Texans signed TE Brevin Jordan to a one-year contract extension.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport was the first to report the deal. The fourth-year tight end was the subject of preseason hype heading into his contract year with the team, but a torn ACL suffered in Week 2 limited him to just two catches for seven yards on the year. Now under contract through next season, Jordan, who turns 25 next summer, will get a chance at another breakout season in 2025.
  • HOU Tight End #9
Aaron Wilson of KPRC in Houston reports that Brevin Jordan suffered a torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament in his knee.
The injury will sideline Jordan for the remainder of the 2024 season. It’s a disappointing development for a player that looked to be on the rise, but now will not be able to play until 2025. Dalton Schultz will remain the starting tight end for the Texans, with Cade Stover — and potentially Irv Smith Jr. — seeing more reps along the way.
  • HOU Tight End #9
Texans placed TE Brevin Jordan on injured reserve.
It’s unclear why Jordan was placed on injured reserve at this time. He will be required to miss at least four games but could be out longer depending on the severity of his injury. His absence will keep Dalton Schultz running a full complement of routes and could free up a few extra reps for rookie Cade Stover. The Texans also signed Irv Smith Jr. to their practice squad today.
  • HOU Tight End #9
Brevin Jordan was held without a catch on one target in the Texans’ Divisional Round loss to the Ravens.
Coming off a wild card appearance where he turned on the jets for a 76-yard touchdown, Jordan reverted to his usual form behind Dalton Schultz. Before last week’s big play, Jordan’s career-long reception was 27 yards. Now the owner of 51 catches through three seasons, Jordan hasn’t proven himself in any format of fantasy, but he is still somehow only 24 years old in July. With Schultz headed to free agency and Jordan having one year left on his rookie deal, he remains a “player to watch” despite his early-career inconsistency.
  • HOU Tight End #9
Brevin Jordan caught both of his targets for 19 yards and a touchdown in the Texans’ Week 17 win over the Titans.
Jordan caught C.J. Stroud’s only touchdown of the day on a short pitch and catch in the red zone. Jordan got open on a play fake and took a nice angle to the pylon for a touchdown. Jordan could see a few more snaps in Week 18 with multiple Texans receivers banged up, but we wouldn’t stream him or take a shot on him in DFS contests as he will still be the backup to Dalton Schultz.
  • HOU Wide Receiver #88
Texans WR John Metchie (illness) practiced on Thursday.
Metchie was one of two players that missed practice on Wednesday with an illness, joined by tight end Brevin Jordan. Both returned to practice on Thursday, a good sign that they’ll be able to suit up on Sunday against the Browns.
  • HOU Tight End #9
Brevin Jordan caught 3-of-3 targets for 35 yards in the Texans’ Week 14 loss to the Jets.
Jordan was the Texans’ leading receiver in a fiasco performance in New Jersey. That includes C.J. Stroud departing late with a concussion. Even if Dalton Schultz (hamstring) remains sidelined for Week 15 against the Titans, Jordan won’t be a comfortable option inside the top 20 at tight end.
  • HOU Tight End #86
Texans ruled out Dalton Schultz (hamstring) for Week 14 against the Jets.
Schultz will now miss his second consecutive game with this hamstring injury, which will put tight end Brevin Jordan in line for another busy day. In Week 13’s matchup against the Broncos, Jordan emerged to catch three passes for 64 yards on five targets and played a season-high 75 percent of the snaps. Jordan will be on the low-end TE2 streaming radar against the Jets.
  • HOU Tight End #86
KPRC2 Houston’s Aaron Wilson reports Dalton Schultz (hamstring) is likely out for Week 14 against the Jets.
Schultz wasn’t able to practice this week as he recovers from a hamstring issue he picked up a few weeks ago. His absence will make Brevin Jordan the Texans’ primary pass-catching tight end this week against the Jets. In Week 13, Jordan ran a route on 24 of C.J. Stroud’s 34 drop backs and caught three of five targets for 64 yards. Jordan is a top streaming option for Week 14.
  • HOU Tight End #86
Dalton Schultz (hamstring) was not spotted at the media portion of Thursday’s practice.
Texans beat writer Aaron Wilson said Schultz and offensive lineman George Fant were the only two players not present at the media portion of Thursday’s. Thursday could be more of a rest day for Schultz, as he was able to log a limited practice on Wednesday. We’ll see how things go Friday before getting too concerned about his Week 14 status, but if he’s unable to go, Brevin Jordan would be looking at another busy day against the Jets.
