Draft Analyst’s Tony Pauline relays that Army T Brett Toth is “really creating a buzz for himself in scouting circles.”
Toth (6'5/304) was a standout performer during the East-West Shrine Game last week and has been dominant down in Mobile in his Senior Bowl practice work. Per Pauline, on Wednesday, he “shut down every top defender who lined up across from him.” All of this is very encouraging and in ideal circumstance, Toth could very well be in play for a second-round selection. There’s a caveat here, though, as the offensive lineman has a two-year commitment to serve in the Army now that he’s graduated. It’s possible that the Department of Defense could allow him a waiver for that commitment, though it’s very uncertain whether he will actually receive that. The DoD publicly said in 2017 that they would stop providing such waivers for athletes looking to play professionally, but Pauline writes that he’s been told this is not a policy that’s “carved in stone.” Toth’s draft slot will very much depend on whether or not he receives a waiver.
