Chargers signed sixth-round RB Larry Rountree to a four-year contract.
Rountree was a four-year contributor at Missouri, finishing his career behind only Brad Smith with 3,720 yards (5.0 per carry) and 40 touchdowns. He joins a crowded backfield with the Chargers, where he’ll compete for a roster spot as the No. 4 running back. Rountree has a similar profile to both Joshua Kelley and contract-year RB Justin Jackson, who he’ll likely replace in 2022. The Chargers also signed fifth-round OG Brenden Jaimes, sixth-round LB Nick Niemann, and seventh-round DB Mark Webb to rookie contracts.

  • LAC Tackle #64
Chargers selected Nebraska OT Brenden Jaimes with the No. 159 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Jaimes (6'5/298) comes with all the versatility and experience desired in a mid-round OT prospect. A four-year starter at Nebraska, Jaimes initially found his way onto the field at right tackle as a freshman in 2017 before switching over to left tackle for the following three seasons. Jaimes started 40 consecutive games in college, allowing him to earn honorable mentions for the Big Ten all-conference team in each of his final three years. Jaimes is a high-quality athlete for the position, as evidenced by his 8.53 RAS. However, that athletic ability needs to be unlocked on the field somehow, as Jaimes often looked clunky through his pass sets. Jaimes plays with a decent anchor, while also showing enough strength and violence to do well in the run game, particularly in gap schemes. Perhaps Jaimes’ best fit in the NFL is a move back to right tackle, where he could be similar to Joe Haeg. The Chargers added two tackles recently with Bryan Bulaga in free agency a year ago and Rashawn Slater in the first round of this draft. Jaimes has the versatility to fill in at most offensive line positions and could be called upon should injuries befall Los Angeles.
