Former Virginia Tech redshirt junior QB Braxton Burmeister transferred to San Diego State.
Burmeister (6'1"/205) was VT’s starting QB this year, and had a pretty solid 14:4 TD:INT ratio. Of course he also completed just 55.7% of his passes for just 1960 yards (or 163.3 passing yards per game). Burmeister also ran for 521 yards and two scores. SDSU had an elite defense and special teams unit, but was often let down by poor QB play. Burmeister should slot in as their best option, so if they can keep up the other two phases and Burmeister can be a difference maker, SDSU can make some noise in 2022.

Virginia Tech redshirt junior QB Braxton Burmeister has entered the transfer portal and will not play in the team’s bowl game.
Burmeister (6'1/205) enter the portal came as a bit of a shock, after the redshirt junior started 12 games for the Hokies in 2021, throwing for 1,960 yards, 14 touchdowns and four interceptions. Burmeister also rushed 50 times for 679 yards and another two touchdowns, but he struggled as a passer, completing just 55.7% of his passes, with an adjusted completion percentage of 65.4% per Pro Football Focus. Burmeister will be playing for his third program in 2022 after beginning his collegiate career in 2017 at Oregon.

Virginia Tech will meet Maryland in the Pinstripe Bowl.
After an up and down season including the firing of their head coach mid-season, the Hokies ended up getting a sixth win in the last regular-season game against Virginia to become bowl eligible. Maryland started the season with four straight wins but would finish the season just 2-6. The Pinstripe Bowl will take place on December 29 at Yankee Stadium.

Virginia Tech redshirt junior QB Braxton Burmeister completed 6-of-14 for 141 yards and a touchdown, along with 12 rushes for 115 yards in a 29-24 win over Virginia on Saturday afternoon.
After going down 7-0, Burmeister (6'1/205) took the game into his own hands. He got excellent protection and launched a beautiful post route 61 yards to Tayvion Robinson. On the last play of the first quarter, he took a read-option around the right edge, cut it back, and took it 71-yards to the four-yard line. He tied the game with a three-yard touchdown reception on a modified Philly Special. The Hokies 320 yards rushing is the most on the season and they are bowl eligible and will await their opponent.

Virginia Tech redshirt junior QB Braxton Burmeister worked with the first-team offense in warmups ahead of Saturday’s game against Virginia.
Burmeister (6'1/205) has been banged up for much of this season, and ineffective play led to him being pulled from last weekend’s loss to Miami. But it appears that this wasn’t enough to force a change at the quarterback position, with the redshirt junior set to make another start. Don’t be surprised if Connor Blumrick sees action Saturday, whether Burmeister plays well or not.

Virginia Tech redshirt junior QB Braxton Burmeister was benched in Saturday’s 38-26 loss to Miami.
Burmeister (6'1/205) struggled as Miami dominated throughout this game. The final blow was early in the third quarter when Burmeister was sacked and resulted in a fumble loss. Connor Blumrick would come in and throw for two touchdowns. Burmeister finished with completing 14-of-17 passes for 109 yards and a touchdown. He’s been dealing with injuries for most of the season and the hit could have re-aggravated it and forced him to leave the game, but any thought of that was squashed. Virginia Tech interim coach J.C. Price confirmed after the game that the change was not due to injury, but in fact, wanted to go with the “hot hand.” The Hokies season started off great by going 3-1, which included an upset win over North Carolina. It would go downhill after that by losing the next four of five and led them to fire head coach Justin Fuente. We’ll have to monitor what the quarterback situation looks like as Virginia Tech preps for a road matchup against Virginia. The Hokies still have something to play for as a win would make them bowl eligible.

Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente indicated redshirt junior QB Braxton Burmeister’s has continually been injured this season.
Burmeister (6'1/205) took a hard hit from linebacker Shaka Heyward late in the second quarter that sent him to the sidelines in Saturday’s 48-17 win over Duke. A similar situation happened the week before in the game against Boston College. Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente spoke after the game and basically indicated that this is something Burmeister has been dealing with for a while. Fuentes continued by saying there will be times when his quarterback will be good to go, and times he won’t, there’s really isn’t any indication which one it will be. He also credits Burmeister will his ability to play tough this season and his passion to help the team win. From the sound of it, looks like Burmeister will be under center for Virginia Tech’s (5-5, ACC 3-3) road matchup against Miami.

Virginia Tech redshirt junior QB Braxton Burmeister completed 9-of-15 passes for 215 yards, three touchdowns, one interception and also ran nine times for 71 yards in VT’s 48-17 win over Duke.
Burtmeister (6'1/205) shook off an injury and led the Hokies to a dismantling of the Duke defense. Every pass he completed was basically a big play. His first two passes were deep shots, including a catch of the year contender from Tre Turner. His first touchdown pass saw RB Keshawn King run a wheel route, flying down the sideline wide open and Burtmeister had no trouble finding him either. For his second touchdown Burtmeister also found a man wide open on a broken play. That made it 24-3, and he didn’t need to throw much after that. He threw another touchdown later on to RB Raheem Blackshear on a screen to pad the stats. Burtmeister and VT had chunk play after chunk play, and totaled 573 yards against a helpless Duke defense. It should be tougher sledding against Miami next Saturday, but maybe not that much.

Virginia Tech redshirt junior QB Braxton Burmeister (undisclosed) had to exit Saturday’s game against Duke during the first half.
Burmeister (6'1/205), who entered Saturday’s game a bit banged up, had to depart after taking a hit while throwing a pass. Whether or not the redshirt junior will be able to return is not known at this time. Knox Kadum has replaced Burmeister, who has struggled to stay healthy for much of his time in Blacksburg.

Virginia Tech redshirt junior QB Braxton Burmeister (upper body) is warming up ahead of Saturday’s game against Duke.
Burmeister (61'/205) was injured during last week’s game against Boston College, exiting in the first quarter and not returning. It appears that the redshirt junior will be available Saturday, but how much Burmeister will play has yet to be determined. Knox Kadum, who replaced Burmeister last week, Connor Blumrick (who’s been dealing with a leg injury) and Tahj Bullock were also out for early warmups.
