Lions signed undrafted free agent S Brandon Joseph.
Joseph (6’0/202) was a three-star recruit who spent his first three collegiate seasons at Northwestern. Joseph earned Consensus All-American recognition in 2020 when he led the nation with six interceptions despite playing in nine games. However, after the Wildcats bottomed out in 2021 Joseph transferred to Notre Dame where he suffered an ankle injury that slowed him down and limited him to 431 snaps. He is average size for a safety, running a 4.62s 40-yard dash (60th percentile) with a 30.5” vertical (16th percentile) for a respectable 6.47 RAS. A disciplined safety, he didn’t commit a single penalty in college. Joseph trains his eyes on the quarterback because he wants to make a play on the ball, recording 17 PBU and 10 interceptions in his college tenure. While productive, he isn’t a twitchy athlete with sideline-to-sideline capabilities and will be miscast in a slot coverage role. Joseph projects as a special teamer or backup free safety at the NFL level.
